**NOTE: Review: "The Grodeck Whipperjenny is a killer fuzzed-out funk rock LP led by James Brown’s producer David Matthews. It was recorded in 1970 and released on Brown's People label. The band's lone LP exists in the sonic hinterland between Funkadelic-style psychedelic soul and a distinctly soulful prog rock. The results are truly sublime with funky tracks like 'Sitting Here on a Tongue', with Kenny Poole's fuzz guitar and Jimmy Madison's funky drums, that surely made Brown proud. The LP gets even harder and heavier with the lysergic caveman stomp of 'Put Your Thing on Me' and 'Why Can't I Go Back'. Matthews gets to strut his arranging stuff on the string-heavy 'Conclusions' and takes his Hammond for a ride on the trippy 'Evidence for the Existence of the Unconscious'.The LP is a wild ride and not to be missed!”. (A year later, The Grodeck Whipperjenny went on to back James B. on the album Sho Is Funky Down Here, the finest James record ever released).
