WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Capitol Records second Stereo High Fidelity press released by Capitol Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1972 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon, S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), licensed from Capitol Records Inc. USA Recording, catalog number (S)W-853, with hand etched matrix number SW-1-853 D3 in Side A and SW-2-853 D in Side B, with traditional yellow/black Capitol Records labels of the period, with boxed Capitol Records logo at top!!! Yes, Sirs, another FIND from Chile!!!

“E PLURIBUS FUNK” was originally released in November 1971 in USA and we had until 1972 to see this album by Grand Funk Railroad released here in Chile as part of the “Serie Popular” (in English, “Popular Series”) of Odeon Records Chile and, like usual in the period, we got it with an UNIQUE NON-CIRCULAR COVER, made of two single thin cardboards for front and back covers, kept held for an outer plastic bag, which’s also part of the cover, but in this copy it was removed. Front and back covers artwork are different, they keep the same design of the “coin” but in non-embossed black color on the non-bright silver cardboard, with the only differences that in back cover the song titles are written in English, translated to Spanish, with additional “Serie Popular” logo and cash price, “E° 110”, printed at right side. In labels, the tracklist is written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits for Mark Farner as songwriter and for Terry Knight as producer, with additional information about licenses. So, here you have the chance to get and own this great album of Grand Funk Railroad, in this MEGARARE CHILEAN SECOND PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER and Spanish-written song titles, a record almost never seen with yellow labels, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Pop and Psych/Hard Rock music of early ‘70’s and especially for all fans, lovers and collectors of Grand Funk Railroad!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great EX- or EX condition, clean and clear, with only minimal wear in all edges, more evident in corners, with faint creases and ring marks, with the number “100” written at top left corner of back cover. The record is in VG- or VG condition both sides, glossy and clean, but with loads and loads and loads of scuffs, light and not so light hairlines and soft and not so soft scratches, which could make you think the record won’t play properly, but amazingly don’t affect play at all. The labels are in great EX or EX+ condition both sides, clean and clear, with some spindle hole wear and factory discoloration of song title “Save The Land” in Side B. The sound is in strong EX- or even EX condition the Side A, loud, clean and clear, virtually no background noise (background noise was normal in most of records pressed in Chile), with constant soft crackles and occasional light clicks here and there, more evident in the silent parts between tracks, and in VG+ or EX- condition the Side B, almost same condition as Side A, with the crackles and clicks a bit more present, especially in the last seconds of “People, Let’s Stop The War” and first seconds of “Upsetter”, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record by Grand Funk Railroad in this MEGARARE CHILEAN SECOND PRESS, with UNIQUE COVER and Spanish-written song titles, for sure not for Minty minds or audiophiles, but it’s still in a great condition, with a very nice cover and with the record still glossy, even though the look isn’t so good, with almost immaculate labels and great sound quality after about 52 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean press!!! We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
