“HELP!”

WOW!! MEGARARE and hard-to-find original MONO second press released in Chile in 1966 by Odeon Records, made and distributed by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon, S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), catalog number LDC-36590, with machine etched matrix numbers XEX 557-1 1N (“N” inverted) in Side A and XEX 557-1 1N (“N” inverted) in Side B, with black/silver Odeon Records labels, with big unboxed Odeon logo. If you know the Chilean Odeon releases of the period, the very first press has the same label design, but it’s maroon/silver. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND!!!

“HELP!”, as you can read in Wikipedia, “is a 1965 album by The George Martin Orchestra, the second of a series of albums by Martin featuring instrumental arrangements of Beatle songs” and we had to wait until 1966 to see this great instrumental album released here in Chile and like in most of the cases of that period, we got this album with an UNIQUE COVER, the typical Chilean cover made of only 2 single sheets of paper kept held by an outer plastic bag which’s also part of the cover but in this case it was removed for some past owner. Front cover keeps strictly the original “Studio 2 Stereo” version UK artwork with the only difference that in Chile at top right corner it’s a double boxed EMI and Odeon Records logo. Back cover keeps the four pictures and the liner notes by Brian Epstein, translated to Spanish, the tracklist is written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits for songwriters and songs from the movie “Help!” marked with “*”. The differences in this Chilean issue is that name of George Martin And His Orchestra is written in Spanish only, at bottom left corner it’s a box with a review about what “Studio 2 Stereo” means, an additional comment below the picture “…listening to the playback” about “Studio 2 Stereo” and at bottom right corner it’s a small Odeon Records logo with Chilean credits and “SERIE ESTELAR” with the Chilean catalog number!!! In labels the album title and tracklist are written in English only, with full credits for songwriters and the name of George Martin And His Orchestra written in Spanish only. It’s interesting to see that in back cover the sides are identified as “Faz 1” and “Faz 2” but in labels they are informed only “A” and “B”, but the most interesting facts to notice and which make this Chilean issue UNIQUE is the error in song “Help!”, correctly written in label but misspelled in back cover “HELP”, without the “!”. And the song “Ticket To Ride”, correctly written in back cover it’s misspelled in label “TICKETS To Ride”!!! WOW!!! So, here you have the chance to get this great album by George Martin with UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE BACK COVER DESIGN, MONO SOUND and UNIQUE ERRORS!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in EX or EX+ condition, with general wear in edges and corners, some creases and little rips, faint age browning but no bends, no ring marks, no writings, no blemishes or marks of any kind, some past owner taped both sheets of paper in a little part at the bottom edge in the inside and as you can see in the picture it doesn't affect the look at all. The record isn’t so thick like the very first press and it’s in G+ or VG- condition both sides, still glossy and clean, but with loads of scuffs, hairlines and scratches of all sizes, which don’t affect play, at first sight you could even think the record won’t play properly but it runs without any problem. Labels are in great EX+ or NM- condition both sides, absolutely clean and clear, with only minimal spindle hole wear. The sound is the best part if you consider the look of the record, it’s in VG- or VG condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, with a soft background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), constant crackles and some light pops and clicks, more evident in the silent parts and between the songs, with a constant hiss at the beginning of “It’s Only Love”, which of course doesn’t cause major distraction, and I detected a very little jump in the middle of “I Need You” but you will have to pay attention to can identify where the jump is. Overall, sure this record isn’t for Minty minds or audiophiles, that’s a fact, but this record is rare so no matter the condition, it’s A MUST TO HAVE for The Beatles/George Martin fans or collectors, the cover is in great condition, labels are almost immaculate and it still keeps a very decent and respectable sound quality (sure it sounds much better that how it looks) from the beginning to the end, which won’t disappoint anyone after about 51 years, which won't disappoint anyone. And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE BACK COVER DESIGNS and UNIQUE ERRORS!!! WOW!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a copy of this RARE record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

GBP15 for weight until 1kg (usually 1 or 2 records 12" depending of thickness of the vinyl)

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.
