Scarce original copy of remarkable and coveted garage band lp.  THE STARLITERS - "Journey with the Starliters" in MONO. One of the earlier and more obscure legendary private garage labels from the mid-60's. 

Nothing could be more endearing than these young guys strutting their Beatles stuff in 1966!! The Starliters were a band of four students at South Stokes High School, south of Mt. Airy North Carolina. The members were Mike Rogers, Ken Wilkins, Larry Jones and Gary Rogers. Their style is typical garage, but these guys were fairly proficient on their instruments (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass and drums) for their age. There's one back-up vocalist, drummer Gary Rogers (who I assume is Mike's brother). The performances range from primitive to (actually) good, mostly covers and the band leans toward soul, in some cases derivative soul via groups like the Animals.  A notable cover that gets the teenage garage treatment is "Ticket to Ride" by The Beatles; instead of trying to imitate the original, they turn it into a garage burner - sounds nothing like the hit by the Fab Four - but it turns out to be one of the strongest tracks on the LP. They cover two classics by The Animals - "House of the Rising Sun" and "We Gotta Get Outta This Place".  On Sandy (not the Ronny and the Daytona's song of the same name), they slow things down giving the song a bit of a minor key early psych treatment. The first track, It's Alright, is a garage raver, strong cut; 12 songs in all. My personal favorite - "Mother in Law"!
How rare is this lp? Very few were pressed (some bands who recorded with Justice pressed fewer copies than others but the range was probably between 250 and 1000 copies). Of course most were probably destroyed or disappeared over the years. I live in North Carolina, have collected for thirty years, and this is the first copy of this lp I have ever seen!
Condition is outstanding. The vinyl retains its original gloss, and appears very little played (minimal spindle wear). Having cleaned the lp with VPI vacuum machine, I spun it once on my high-end turntable (sorry, couldn't resist!) and it sounds fantastic. Just a little background noise in the lead-in tracks, but smooth sailing from there, with groovy guitars and teenage angst bursting from a black background, circa 1966.
Jacket shows light handling wear, with corner dings. But overall, extremely presentable, and a piece you will be proud to display as well enjoy playing! Our price is stiff, but we are very reluctant to let this gem go... especially when we know we will never come across a copy in this condition ever again. Don't miss your chance!

EX (excellent):                  lustrous vinyl with only a few light scratches or light scuffing
VG+ (very good plus):       clean and shiny, with light scratches and/or light scuffing, and audible background clicks and pops. an enjoyable record.
VG (very good):                often played, with signs of wear and use. many light scratches or a few heavy ones. Background noise present,
                                       occasionally competing with music
G (good):                         heavy scratching, coupled with consistent background noise. may skip on one or more tracks.
P (poor):                          deep scratches and likely skipping. 

Jacket
M (mint):                          only applies to records that are sealed, or with enough shrink wrap to protect original
                                        condition.
NM (near mint):                 looks like new or next to it. 
EX: (excellent):                 very clean, though corners may be bumped, or edges slightly worn.
VG+ (very good plus):       presentable, but obviously used, with significant corner, edge or ring wear.
VG (very good):                 more significant wear, such as seam split; cut-out, sticker or writing - but still
                                        functional and attractive.
G (good):                          lengthy seam splits, heavy writing or other serious flaws.
P (poor):                           considerable damage, such as water stains, tears, etc.

PACKAGING
To prevent splitting, we ship all records outside the jacket. All records are packed in a new record mailing box. We ship twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

RETURN POLICY
All records are guaranteed to be in the condition stated. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, simply return it to us within seven (7) days of receipt and we will issue a refund, postage excluded. Sealed items must be returned sealed in order to be eligible for a refund.
