The Freaks of Nature UK single "People! Let's Freak Out"/"The Shadow Chasers" Island WI-3017 issued late 1966. Produced by Kim Fowley.
When Van Morrison left Them in 1965 the remaining band called themselves The Belfast Gypsies. The Belfast Gypsies issued a UK single "Gloria's Dream/Secret Police" on Island WI-3007 and then this single under the group name The Freaks of Nature. The Belfast Gypsies broke up in late 1966 and didn't exist by the time the single was issued. One possible reason for the name change is that a recording engineer felt that the single would get more attention if the band name was changed to something more psychedelic. Neither the Belfast Gypsies nor producer Kim Fowley had any prior knowledge of the name change. According to Fowley only 100 copies of the UK single bearing the Freaks of Nature name were pressed. "People! Let's Freak Out" is wrongly part-credited to Pat McAvley. It should be Pat McAuley.
