Description

FORD MOTOR CO. -- The Going Thing 1970 -- ex. rare, original 1970 U.S. album, Promo only release, autographed on front cover by Steve Flanagan.  Amazingly groovy Sunshine Pop-Soul-Psych LP here issued as a promotional give-away by Ford Motors, with a paisley-colored Fifth Dimension-like vibe; the group is anonymous but fortunately they identify themselves by name in one of the songs (!), and lead singer Steve Flanagan (who signed this copy) later performed with Soul-Funk group The Creative Source alongside Barbara Lewis.  High point here is an incredible medley of Sixties hits on Side Two with made-up, faux-hip lyrics -- for example, to the melody of "Day Tripper" the group sings "The sound of the Beatles started the whole thing off/Remember Day Tripper?/We can dig it ...!"; there are similar gonzo tributes to Simon & Garfunkel, Bossa Nova music and Ray Charles' "What'd I Say."  Equally great is a Ford Motors jingle with the lyrics "Ford starts the 70's/With the cars that please/Come & get your keys ..."  Side One features Mod-Psych-Soul covers of Sly & The Family Stone's Dance To The Music, the Beatles' Hey Jude etc.  Really good stuff and overall one of the best Promotional Jingle-type LP's I've heard.  Cover:  VG+, ring wear, light wear/creasing around edges.  Record:  VG, light surface marks and light surface wear, very faint markings where Flanagan apparently signed the LP and it registered on the vinyl itself (this doesn't affect play and is only visible under bright light), overall fairly clean and plays well, on red Ford private press label, U.S. press.
