Condition : the cover is in great shape with only a few slight corner wear, NEAR MINT / vinyl has some moderate scuffs with a few light clicks to listening. However, the poor quality of the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) causes some background noise to the beginning of both sides and in the dead wax between a track and the other, EX 

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : un bel documentario sul mondo del surf con regia e colonna sonora proveniente dalla California. I Farm che composero ed interpretarono le musiche fecero stampare nel 1968 un’ edizione limitata di 1000 copie della loro colonna sonora da un’etichetta privata con copertina fotografica solo sul fronte completamente diversa dal album Australiano del 1969 (REBEL RECORDS DG 270/ S-2222) e con un brano dal titolo differente: "The Eater" (b1) invece che "V12 Cadillac" anche se il contenuto è identico. La mancanza poi dei titoli su entrambi i lati dell'etichetta che ha una spirale che ricorda vagamente quella della Vertigo Inglese, dà l'idea anche se sbagliata di avere a che fare con un disco pirata piuttosto che con un album originale, ma non è affatto così! E' stato ristampato in cd dalla casa discografica Giapponese EM nel 2007 che ha proprio utilizzato la copertina dell'edizione privata USA e dalla Americana Sundazed un mese fa in formato LP (LP5519) con una copertina del tutto diversa dalle due edizioni degli anni sessanta. L'album contiene veramente grande musica che lascia piacevolmente sorpreso l'ascoltatore. A prima vista si dovrebbe pensare a musica surf, quella che fino a pochi anni prima era così popolare negli States e in gran parte del mondo. Le cose non stanno esattamente così. Se è vero che l'anima surf dei musicisti è comunque avvertibile, non a caso alcuni di loro avevano suonato con i Beach Boys, in questo album due sono i principali elementi: il blues rock e la musica psichedelica, spesso combinati insieme. Due sole canzoni : "Crumple Car" (a4) bella ballata ricca di sapori folk rock e "The Eater" (b1) dalle caratteristiche blues con belle sincopature di voce e chitarra. Tutti i brani meriterebbero di essere menzionati per la loro indiscutibile qualità ma ne ricorderò solo alcuni. "Animal" (a2) dalle caratteristicke rock blues con buone sfumature funky da parte dell’organo Hammond ben supportato dalla batteria, da un’insistente linea di basso e da un ottima chitarra elettrica, "Windensea" (a3) dal ritmo vivace contenente sapori jazzistici ed ottimi contributi del basso e della batteria, "Inner Space" (b4) dalle belle atmosfere psichedeliche basate sul ripetuto riff di una chitarra acustica. "Snake Charmer" (a7) dove chitarra acustica e cori del gruppo creano un'atmosfera evanescente con batteria, piano e chitarra elettrica che intrecciano i loro suoni. "The Cruzer" (b2) dove blues rock e psichedelia si fondono magnificamente anche con l’aiuto di un notevole drumming e della chitarra elettrica. "Coming of the Dawn" (b6), brano di lunga durata (13 minuti circa) in cui alcuni coretti maschili in sottofondo creano uno spazio sonoro subito invaso dal basso e dalla batteria con fraseggi quasi ossessivi. Successivamente organo e chitarra entrano in azione dando vita a una fluidità musicale al tempo stesso innovativa ed eccitante.  Infine "Outeriff" (b5) sottolineata dalle sonorità jazzistiche del pianoforte.

Avendo avuto ed ascoltato in passato pure la copia Australiana, posso dire che la stampa Americana è superiore perché non condizionata da particolari missaggi e filtri in studio di registrazione come invece accadde per quell’altra. Vale a dire che qui troviamo una maggior genuinità del suono con il risultato di percepire maggiori emozioni.

I titoli dei tredici brani possono esser letti guardando il lato frontale della copertina raffigurato nella scansione n° 1. 

Notes : a nice documentary about the surfing world with direction and soundtrack from California. The Farm who composed and performed the music released in 1968 a limited edition of 1000 copies of this film score on a private label with picture sleeve only on the front completely different from the Australian album of 1969 (REBEL RECORDS DG 270 / S-2222) and with a piece from different title: "The Eater" (b1) instead of "V12 Cadillac". Moreover the absence of the tracklist on both sides of the label with a spiral vaguely recalling the Vertigo swirl label gives the idea even if wrong the swirl of English Vertigo, to be in presence of a bootleg rather than to an original album, but it is not so! It has been reissued on CD by the Japanese record company EM in 2007 that just used this USA jacket and by the American Sundazed a month ago in LP format (LP5519) with a cover entirely different from the two versions of the sixties. The album contains really great music that leaves pleasantly amazed the listener. At first glance you should assume that it is only surf music, the one that until a few years ago was hugely popular in the States and in much of the world. Things are not exactly so. If it is true that the surfing soul of the musicians is still perceptible, not by chance some of them had played with the Beach Boys, in this album there are two main elements: blues rock and psychedelic music, often combined together. There are only two songs: "Crumple Car" (a4) nice ballad full of folk rock flavors and "The Eater" (b1) with blues features and beautiful syncopations of voice and guitar. All the tracks would deserve to be mentioned for their unquestionable quality but I'll remember just some of these. "Animal" (a2) from blues rock characteristics with good funky shades by the Hammond organ well supported by the drums, by an insistent bassline and with an excellent electric guitar, "Windansea" (a3) from the lively rhythm containing jazzy flavors and excellent contributions of bass and drums, "Inner Space" (b4) from the beautiful psychedelic atmospheres based on repeated riffs of an acoustic guitar. "Snake Charmer" (a7) where acoustic guitar and the group's choruses create an evanescent atmosphere with drums, piano and electric guitar intertwining their sound. "The Cruzer" (b2) where blues rock and psychedelic blend beautifully with the help of a remarkable drumming and electric guitar. "Coming of the Dawn" (b6) long-term piece (about 13 minutes) in which some male choruses in the background create a sound space immediately invaded by bass and drums with some almost obsessive phrasing. Subsequently organ and guitar come into play giving rise to a musical fluency at the same time innovative and exciting. Finally "Outeriff" (b5) underlined by jazzy piano sonorities.

Having had and been able to listen in the past as well the Australian issue, I can say that the American release is superior because it is not affected by particular mixages and filters in the recording studio as it happened to the other one. That is to say here we find a greater authenticity of the sound with the result of perceiving more emotions.
