BACKGROUND TO THIS RECORD:
An Ealing,West London group who recorded 4 singles and this mega rare 1966 EP, they also recorded an LP under the pseudonym, The Pupils(Tribute To The Rolling Stones, which I also have under a later reissue). Their output can also be heard on the reissue label Bam-Caruso issued in 1984 and 1987. This original EP, on the removable round centre , which is still intact, Mercury label contains their 1st 2 singles. As RRPG 2008 lists a mint copy at £400+, I suppose starting it at £99 seems fair enough.
Without sounding too immodest, I can assure new buyers that I am commited to quality service and had my moment in the sun when I sold a Bill Fay LP for £1020 in March 2008 which not only made it to Record Collector mag's Ebay watch(May 2008 issue), but was also highlighted for describing in detail my cleaning methods. Though we are all not infallible, I take great pain in not only cleaning and listening but also in the grading(see results of my grading below)
GRADING RESULTS:
I would rate the cover as a strong VG++. Though there are no tears or writings on both sides, it does look its age. There are some light creases on the laminate and the laminate also seems to have separated from the cover along parts of the spine though it is, by and large, intact. The back shows some light fraying along the entry side. There is also a whitish scuff at one spot along the top spine. The glue on the flipback is still strong and intact and there is no seam splits whatsoever .
The vinyl looks VG++ to Excellent with some faint hairline surface scratches on both sides which did not seem to affect play. There are some light spindle marks. The vinyl maintains it lustre and is mirror like. Tracking at 1.7g on my Naim Aro/Lyra Helikon SL cartridge , there were some slight soft clicks but it generally played between Excellent to Near Mint on my system.
How I Clean and Grade my Records
Cleaning: Cleaning is done on a Loricraft PRC 4 cleaning machine using the US made 3 stage Walker cleaning fluid. Before despatch, I usually give it a final wash using Loricraft's L'Art Du Son cleaning fluid.
Playback Equipment: Playback is through a Linn LP12 turntable/Armeggedon/Naim Aro tonearm/Linn Troika cartridge and through a brace of active Naim 250s/135s into Naim DBL speakers. For 45s I use a second Linn/Lingo/Aro/Lyra Helikon SL.
I use both Goldmine and Rare Record Price Guide grading system as a guide and came up with the following:
· Mint I only use this for sealed items. The record is virtually unplayed and is in a brand new condition. Cover is pristine. Up till now, I have never used this grading and, chances are, never will, due to my conservative nature in matters of record grading.
· Near Mint Very little or negligible flaws. Faint lines or very faint creasing on laminated covers visible under a strong light is acceptable but nothing serious. Records which show some signs of having been played such as very faint spindle marks are allowed but there should be no lessening in sound quality. .
· Excellent Item obviously played, though not often, and enjoyed with some slight noise. The record should be nice and shiny but may have a few light marks which should not intrude on play. Slight wear on cover is acceptable.
· Very Good Many more imperfections which are noticeable but not obtrusive. The record has been played several times but there should be no major deterioration in sound quality despite some noticeable surface marks and light scratches. Normal wear and tear or writings on the cover is acceptable but there should not be any major tears.
I do not offer any records below Very Good unless its extremely rare.
