Description
This an unusual find that makes my luthier think i'm getting senile for letting it go at potentially such a low price if not many are paying attention this week and the bidding doesn't rise to expectations. I don't usually rely on superlatives for the description and try to be objective and factual and let the buyer decide but this one is a beauty and my puerile phtography simply doesn't do it justice. It is handsome with its old Italian style soft reddish oil varnish with deep clarity and reflection. He said that this appears to be a vintage hand made instrument by a relatively nondescript father/son family according to the label who never made it to the big leagues but nonetheless occasionally produced some very good pieces for the money. This one is well made with obviously top grade tone wood, following an old traditional Italian format with well carved scroll and sound holes, good solid interior construction, all four corner blocks, carved bass bar, excellent arching with meticulous purfling on a master under cut edging. There'sa pro set up with new strings and the sonority is so outstanding that you feel the resonance through your fingertips. It is set up for classical music but is suitable for just about any professional performance with the right tweaking. Here's your chance to acquire something that some would compare to a lot of five figured violins, at a fraction of the cost. If you are a collector and a player, you can't miss this one!
