Collectors, here is a great disc, Edison Diamond Disc 52541, circa spring 1929. The sound has a real "presence" to it, I believe these two songs were electrical recordings. Bob Pierce sings two songs with orchestra: the Gus Edwards composition "If I Was a Millionaire", and "I'd Be a Pal to Your Boy (If You'll Be a Pal to Mine). I did not find much information on Mr. Pierce (too common a name??), he recorded for Edison in 1928 and 1929. Both of these songs were recorded on March 6, 1929. Nice singing and arrangements, I particularly liked "Millionaire", where Mr. Pierce would use his wealth to cancel school and build ice cream mountains. As far as I can tell, neither song was issued as an Edison Blue Amberol cylinder. The record plays well with little surface noise, sounds great! The record has no edge chips, and the two labels are glued tight to the record.
Spring 1929 is at the end of Diamond Disc Land, the highest record number issued was #52651. The disc business was pretty much done by late summer 1929, although Edison as a business did not close until October 31, 1929. These late records were issued in very small quantities. The consumer had only a few months to buy this record. As to what happened to inventories of dealers and jobbers after fall 1929, who knows!! So this is super rare, if this is what you like and need, do not pass it up, you might not see another up for sale for a while. Low buy it now price given what I got here, go for it!
