Description

Collectors, here is an amazing disc, Edison Diamond Disc 52384, circa fall 1928.  Two well known songs written by Mac McClintock and sung by Ed Kirkeby under the pseudonym "Eddie Kirk":  "The Bum Song" and "Hallelujah! I'm a Bum".  Tommy Felline plays banjo on the sides, and Mr. Kirkeby provides all voices heard.  Wonderful stuff, I love the lyrics (e.g., "I don't like work/it don't like me/that is why I am hungry").  The sides were recorded on July 28, 1928, and issued on Edison Blue Amberol cylinders #5604 and #5605.  As a reference, the last Diamond disc issued was #52651 and the last cylinder issued was #5719.  The record plays well with fairly minimal surface noise.  The labels are firmly attached the record and there are no edge chips.
As you may know, Edison stopped making and marketing Diamond discs in July 1929.  So, buyers had less then a year to purchase this record.  Record runs were very low and Edison competed against its few remaining dealers by selling cylinders and records directly from the New Jersey factory!!  We don't know how many copies were sold or were in the inventories of dealers and jobbers by July 1929.  Since the format was now obsolete, within a few years after 1929 many folks put their phonographs and records in the basement/attic/trash bin.  92 years later, the answer to the question of how many copies still exist has to be "not many"!!  If this is what you like and want, do not pass this up, could be a while before you find another for sale.  Low opening bid to get things going, go for it!!
Shipping to USA addresses only. $4.50 media mail postage and handling, record will be carefully packed and shipped in a new box.  Please pay within 24 hours of purchase and I will leave you positive feedback when I ship the record, your positive feedback much appreciated!!  See my other listings for other early 78s,  I will combine shipping if you buy more than one, and thanks for looking!!
