Earle Brown studied the Joseph Schillinger method of composition under Brogue Henning and is known for his use of graphic notation, improvisation, and open form in his scores; he was a member of the New York School of experimental American composers (John Cage, Morton Feldman, David Tudor, Christian Wolff). Xenakis was an architect who worked with Le Corbusier and brought the mathematics and logic of engineering into his "stochastic" music; he studied under Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, and Olivier Messiaen, was influenced by Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage, worked with Pierre Schaeffer (at the INA-GRM studios), Lukas Foss, and Pierre Boulez, and is associated with fellow eastern europeans Gyorgy Ligeti and Krzysztof Penderecki. Reynolds studied under Ross Lee Finney and Roberto Gerhard. Takahashi worked with Toshi Ichiyanagi and Kenji Kobayashi, studied under Xenakis, and worked with John Cage, Earle Brown, Roger Reynolds, Toru Takemitsu, John Zorn, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Musica Elettronica Viva, Ned Rothenberg, and Carl Stone.
