The BEATLES

PLEASE PLEASE ME

RARE 4th PRESS STEREO

UK LP

1/1 MOTHERS

Playtested: NO jumps or skips.

QUALITY 174g VINYL

This was the very first official release, being released on the 22nd of March 1963 (MONO version) and later on the 26th of April 1963 (STEREO version). The Lp reached number one in; Disc Weekly, Melody Maker, New Musical Express and The Record Retailer in the UK. Only to be knocked off by their next album With The Beatles.

Amazingly the songs, which were taken from their first two singles and included a further ten songs, were all recorded in one marathon session at Abbey Road Studios. John wasn't feeling too well and got throught the 3 sessions in the one day by having milk, tea and Zubes lozenges....

So, this record I have for sale here:

Rare original UK 4th press Stereo on the Parlophone Yellow & Black label. This was the first stereo pressing to be made on the Yellow & Black label, the first two stereo pressings being on the Black and Gold label, followed by the 3rd with a small 33 1/3 to the label.

This 4th Please Please Me UK pressings do not have "Sold in the UK...." but do have "Recording first published..." text.

Rim text: "The Parlophone Co Ltd" text in upper case...Later changed to The Gramophone rim text.

She comes housed in the Garrod & Lofthouse front laminated sleeve with rounded flipbacks, large "Stereo" & Angus McBean credit.

Both sleeve & record are in vg+/vg condition, an absolutely acceptable copy for this rare pressing with really nice playback, but obviously nor for the Mint collectors.

Vinyl:

VG

HEAVYWEIGHT ORIGINAL 174g VINYL

There are light marks to the record, but little to affect the playback-sounds superb!. I gave her a gentle ultrasonic clean and then listened to both sides, at volume.

Side 1 played through in all her glory and sounded superb with just the VERY occasional light background pop-I am being ultra critical here.

Side 2 played through with lovely audio too, but there was a brief drop out on a couple of the early tracks...Nothing unplayable, but it was noticeable, however; it did disappear as soon as they arrived.

Nice, heavy vinyl without jumps and skips AND (for the majority) SUPERB audio!...Beatles in all their original glory. Even the run-ins are lovely and quiet.

Labels:

VG+.

There are spindle marks, visible when angled towards the light. Some hole wear evident too. The labels stand out beautifully-lovely and clean, with no writing at all. Outer rim text starts with "The Parlophone Co.Ltd"

NO: "sold in uk..."

Side 1 carries the "MT" tax code

This is an unusual tax code for this lp as the PT tax code was used from Nov 26th 1962, through to Jan 1st 1963, when it changed to the MT tax code and then again on the 1st of July 1963, where it changed again into the more familiar KT tax code.

Cover:

EX!

It is a lovely Garrod & Lofthouse cover with the Angus McBean to the front right corner on the front.

LARGE STEREO in the top right corner.

Still solid and free from splits, tears or writing!

Super-Strong spine., which remains perfectly legible.

Only a couple of small areas of spidering to the laminate-with just two lines near the opening and a few small and insignificant fingers of spidering emanating from the seams.

Magical flipbacks...Please see the detailed images for yourselves...There is a tiny bit of lifting to the top right flipback, but nothing bad at all...this truly is a TOP example.

NO Writing

***VERY, VERY DISPLAYABLE COPY HERE***

Inner:

VG

It is a genuine 1st printing run "Use Emitex" inner, with the rarer “PATENTS APPLIED FOR” statement to one side. In VG condition with just creases and a couple of small splits to two of the sides...But only just broken through-these would not be noted if framing.

It has certainly done it's job in keeping the record in great playable condition.

***ALL IN ALL A VERY NICE COLLECTORS PIECE IN SOLID VG PLAYABLE SHAPE, AS WELL AS BEING IN VERY DISPLAYABLE SHAPE...BECOMING INCREASINGLY RARE TO GET HOLD OF***
