Description
The Beatles
Yellow Submarine
1st Press STEREO
PCS 7070
(Another from my personal collection)
With the earliest Matrix endings: -1/-1 & RARE UN-creditted manufacturer of the cover!
Roll up, roll up all ye Beatles fans....Here's The Beatles' YELLOW SUBMARINE....
This was The Beatles' eleventh official album release and interestingly enough, the first album of theirs to included non-Beatles material. Released, after a delay, in mid January 1969 the album made it up the UK charts to the 3rd position....With The Beatles' 'White' album denying it the top slot.
There were only modest sales-in comparison with other Beatles releases-as the sales were around 800,000 within the first three months, but it did go over 1 million sales by the end of the year. This could have had something to do with the album having only four original tracks and the rest was George Martin's film score.
So, here are the details of this album up for auction:
Catalogue number: PCS 7070
Matrix Numbers side 1: YEX 715-1
Matrix Numbers side 2: YEX 716-1
As you can see...It's the very first pressing.
Mothers/Stampers side 1: 24/RG
Mothers/Stampers side 2: 4/MG
Vinyl:
QUALITY 132g
EX!
There are just a few light marks to this slab of shiny, original vinyl..
After giving her a gentle vaccum clean,I played her all the way through and found a wonderfully deep and rich sound reproduction.
There was some minimal static/light crackle, slightly more evident on the insrumental side 2.
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AT ALL
Flat, heavy and an all original glorious vinyl!
NO SKIPS/JUMPS/STICKS
Lables:
EX!
She has the all important statement "Sold in the U.K...." showing it is a first press as well as "Mfd. in U.K."
Nice dark 1st printing run Apple, rather than the later lighter ones.
Only a handful of very faint and light spindle marks, which are really only visible when angled towards the light and really looking for them.
There is a very small name to the side 1 label-ass can be see in the images provided.
Very frameable indeed.
THIS VINYL REPRESENTS EXACTLY HOW THE BEATLES WANTED YOU TO HEAR THIS ICONIC ALBUM.
Very displayable...Very playable ;-)
GORGEOUS
Cover:
EX-!
It is the EARLIEST 1st printing cover: There are NO credits for the printing!! (usually this would be Garrod & Lofthouse on the flipbacks)-but not here...Very RARE and very early!
She has her original creamy colour, rather than the later white background.
**EVEN HAS PINCHED CORNERS**
Has the two red lines above and below the text to the back.
The flipbacks are in superb condition, with their lovely rounded edges.
There are just a couple of very small crescents of spidering to the front laminate, with some central abrasion (I think this was created by keeping her next to the Stones' Sticky Fingers, as the zip was notorious for creating these marks): please see the images provided. REALLY NOTHING BAD AT ALL.
The corners remain strong and sharp with only the slightest of rubbing.
*NO WRITING*
SUPERB strong & LEGIBLE spine.
*FREE FROM RIPS/SPLITS OR TEARS*
THE ORIGINAL COLOURS REMAIN RICH FROM THE DAY SHE WAS BORN
This is a VERY RARE cover in superb condition.
Please see the detailed photo's for yourselves and read my feedback for happy customers and fair gradings.
Inner:
EX
It is the original white die-cut inner with the earliest text you could hope to find:
"PATENTS APPLIED FOR".
In great shape and certainly done her job by looking after this slab of vinyl for the last 53 years!
All in all it is a VERY rare, VERY first pressing of a wonderful album. She is one heck of a rare beauty, sounds great and remains alltogether in all her ORIGINALITY!!!
SAD TO SEE HER GO.....
