MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original DECCA Records Mono press released in Chile by DECCA Records in 1959, licensed from DECCA Records Inc., USA, made and distributed by Industrias Eléctricas y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), catalog number DIM 11013, with machine etched matrix numbers MD45-106.341 S1 (“S” inverted) in Side A and MD45-106340 S2 (“S” inverted) in Side B, with dark green/silver DECCA Records labels. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER GREAT FIND FROM CHILE!!!

“PEPITO” was originally released in USA in January 1959 and the same year we got this rare single released by the singer Elena Madera (born in Havana, Cuba, and moved to USA at age of two) here in Chile. Song titles are written in original language, with full credits for songwriters, the orchestra and chorus and time of each song. And interesting fact about this single is that in the single the credits for the orchestra and chorus are for Howard Biggs, but in the LP of Elena Madera those credits are for Johnny Conquet, so I wonder, because I’ve not heard the LP, if this single is a new recording of the last and final song of that LP, or if the song in the LP is a new recording of this version. The year of release isn’t so clear, because the LP was released late 1958 and it’s informed in back cover that song “Pepito” was already a hit, but in Billboard of January 1959 it’s a little recommendation in section “A Billboard Pick” with this text:

“ELENA MADERA – PEPITO (Raleigh, BMI)

The chick has a sultry reading of a Spanish-type rockballad that’s different and unusual enough to create interest. Spins should find favor from listeners. “Pepito” is the object of her affection and she tells about it in winning fashion. Flip is “Pu-Chun-Ga” (Raleigh, BMI). Decca 30835”

And maybe you have already noticed the main fact about this Chilean press: the sides are inverted!!! Yes, here in Chile “Pepito” is the Side B and “Pu-Chun-Ga” is Side A!!! So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this great single of Elena Madera, with UNIQUE GREEN DECCA RECORDS LABELS, UNIQUE INVERTED SIDES and by the very first time offered in eBay!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!!

This record doesn’t have a cover. The record is in nice VG or VG+ condition both sides, it’s glossy and clean but with light scuffs, soft hairlines and some faint scratches, which don’t affect play at all. Labels are in great EX+ or even NM- condition both sides, clear and clean, with only some minimal spindle hole wear. The sound is a very nice surprise, it’s in strong EX+ or even NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, no background noise (background noise was normal in records from Chile), with only some light occasional pops barely audible in Side A and very soft crackles here and there, more evident in the last seconds of the song, in Side B, which of course don’t cause any distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, a MEGARARE record with GREEN DECCA RECORDS LABELS and INVERTED SIDES, maybe not for the strictest Minty minds or audiophiles, but sure with a very nice look, almost immaculate labels and superb sound quality after about 60 years, which won’t disappoint anyone!!! And keep in mind this is the very first time this single pressed in Chile is auctioned here in eBay!!! And, yes Sirs, WHAT A FIND AGAIN!!! We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
