Description

An original 1st press of Oddity on the RCA label in the UK. Matrix 1E/2E. Please note this release [or re-release] coincides with Bowie's switch to RCA and relaunch with a reissue of the original Oddity material on Philips from 1969. This 1st press on RCA comes just marginally before Bowie hits the big time with STARDUST in the summer of 1972. There are a couple of important indicators that date this copy to very 1st release on RCA in Q2 1972. Firstly, the publishing credits on the label are still 'TITANIC' - this gets changed to Mainman immediately as he hits it big only a couple of months later. And then early covers make no reference to Mainman on the rear. We also have the original inner sleeve and the original poster. So, this package is 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In beautiful condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light radial marks in Track 1 Side 2. My first reaction was 'uh-oh here we go!'. BUT LISTEN UP! I've played this track twice at full-volume....and you know what? I literally can hear absolutely NO EFFECT...And I mean ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT from start to finish. So, these marks whilst visible are clearly very superficial. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one very slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are mostly silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Early pressings on RCA of Bowie really are a 'tour de force' for audio. Interference is, thankfully, very very minor and infrequent. All we could detect were a few crackles in the intro to side 1 and then, quite frankly, precious little else. This LP is very well preserved and the absence of background just gives you tremendous clarity to dig deep into the mix and make out every last nuance. A beaut with out a doubt!!
Cover (Ex+) Wowzers..! This is one very fine looking original copy - never have I seen an original '72 copy looking this crisp! In beautiful condition and has clearly been very carefully looked after down the years. Nice clean front and back without ANY surface wear or creasing at all...miraculous. Edge wear is super light for this title and the spine is entirely intact..and i mean PERFECT. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A fantastic specimen. FINAL UPGRADE.
Inner (Ex-) No splits or ageing at all really. Bit of light creasing that's all.
Poster (Ex+) Pristine...this baby ain't been anywhere near a wall!
