Nick Ingman is a name that library fanatics are more than familiar with.
The opener "Trip Wire" has become a very famous track, featured on many library compilations.
Many of these gems have been sampled by major artists such as Beyonce with Ingman's -"Down Home" - which duck-walks along a white-shoes strut backed by trilling keys and a belching synth.
Ingman's Big Beat is a classic example of DeWolfe in its power prime. Ingman has a killer action jazz/funky crime soundtrack vibe sailing between blaxploitation flicks and easy listening ambiances.
It's hot right away with very cinematic openers 'Trip Wire' and 'Snatch', the songs are based on a hypnotic rhythm and overflown by ominous brass arrangements, funky wah guitars and flutes.
There are 12 compositions in total, all worthy of your ears.
In short, a disc that effortlessly blend the diverse mix of easy grooves with sober and effective orchestration - wah-wah, easy voices, brass, crunchy choruses, strong and rhythmic pop, flutes and trumpets, and fender rhodes in a very 70s movie atmosphere.
Mr Ingman is still a really busy man when it comes to arranging orchestrations.
He also gets an arranging credit on Goldfrapp's 'Black Cherry' album.
Another of the De Wolfe heavyweights, this album was produced at a time when anything this budding young composer turned his hands to became musical gold. It really it is a tough job to pick favourites, it really is such a solid album. "Trip Wire", "Snatch", "Thrust", "Stomp" and "Orgy" are all uptempo, beaty, funky compositions with enough strength and menace to scare off a pack of football hooligans.
