Dore Alpert was the name Herb Alpert used as a vocal recording artist from 1961-1963. Alpert said he liked the sound of motion picture director, writer and producer Dore Schary's name, and Do and Re are the first two notes of the musical scale. Using Dore Alpert prevented confusion with his instrumental recordings as Herb Alpert.
Herb Alpert is a music industry giant and legend. In the 1960's he led Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass and he co-founded A&M Records. Alpert recorded 28 albums that landed on the Billboard 200 chart; five became No. 1 albums. He recorded 14 platinum albums and 15 gold albums.
Alpert is the ONLY musician to hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 as both a vocalist and an instrumentalist. He reportedly sold 72 million records worldwide. He received a Tony Award and eight Grammy Awards, as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2006, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Alpert was awarded the National Medal of Arts by Barack Obama in 2013.
