Description
Superb and very rare 1980 Detroit modern/northern soul/funk 45 by Jimmie "Okera" Hightower. Songs are: "Love And Life" /"Love Thou One Another". Released in very limited edition in 1980 on Bon Records #JAA-777. Only a handful are known to exist. Condition is VG- near VG (Love And Life side), VG "Love Thou One Another" side (overall 6) there are several marks on the vinyl, no deep gouges though, has background surface noise mostly at the beginning of the tracks. It clears up as tracks play on, The surface noise is worst at the begining of the Love and Life side. Both tracks were penned by L. Perry, Jimmie "Okera" Hightower and Mike Terry. Love and Life is a nice mid-paced modern dancer with male lead nice female backing. The flip is a massive exuberant up-tempo funky moving dancer, lyrically expressing the need for equality and racial harmony. taking the best elements of an up-tempo floorshakin' gospel influence blending it with groovin' Funky Soul. Records not in the greatest shape but still a good player/DJing quality. Ranks up there with other notable Detroit late 70's/early 80's rarities as Burning Desire "Why She Had To Go"/"You Must Do Your Best" 45 on Charisma Sound or Brothers Gilmore 'I Feel A Song' b/w 'Another Day Has Come' on Bantu for quality and rarity. I am selling this on behalf of a local Detroit Soul/Funk collector who noticed my auction last month, not likely of seeing this show up again anytime soon.
Grading Scale:
10: Mint Perfect record, clean gloss, no marks, beautiful in every way. Very few records will make mint.
9: Mint- Very clean, only a few light marks. A great record.
8: Excellent (VG++) Condition between 7 and 9.
7: VG+ Used, but not abused. Light scratches only. Should play, and look very nice with minimal surface noise.
6: VG Still a nice record. Looks a bit used, light scratches, no gouges, still plays well, some surface noise.
5: VG- A bit rough but will play ok. Fills the collection.
4: G Plays very rough. Has multiple scratches. What a bargain!!
