DAVID BOWIE, **The Man Who Sold the World** LP is his 3rd album.

I bought this album here from the reputable, 'semi ~ famous' VINTAGE VINYL record store, located in Evanston, Illinois.
The year was sometime in the late fall of 1994, I believe November.
I still have the owner Steve's, hand written sticker "Original - Still Sealed!" tag.

Details: This album here is still housed in its nicely taunt, original Factory Cellophane Shrink Wrap.
There is a slight 1/4" inch in length, shrink wrap break ~ when looking at the front, middle of the right side.

Outer Jacket Cover Sleeve: EXCELLENT PLUS (E+), or VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS (VG++)
Drill hole front, upper right corner. This mark was made back in the day, to show discounted whole sale price given to the retail store.
This album would be graded as 'NEAR MINT', if not for this drill hole.
Also barely noticeable, looks like the very slightest corner bump ~ front, lower left corner.

Record Grade: Never opened and never played. Assumed the Vinyl LP Record Disc is MINT !!

Special Note: This US release is the first release on LP of The Man Who Sold the World. It was only released in two countries - US and Japan (SFX-7345) - with this original cover. The building in the background is the Cane Hill Hospital where David Bowie's half-brother Terry was a patient.

The US Mercury album was counterfeited in the early 1970's after Bowie became popular. It was possible for a potential buyer to choose between the official RCA reissue (in yet another cover), and the counterfeit, such was the wide distribution of the counterfeit.

The following visual indicators can be used to confirm an original US Mercury LP:
* The matrices in the runout space between the label and the grooves are stamped. (the counterfeits are etched/hand drawn)
* The space between the final lyric line of The Supermen and the cartoon bubble "Oh By Jingo" on the rear cover is slightly less than one text line wide (the counterfeits are much wider).

There are other differences, though these can be more easily seen and described in a side-by-side comparison.

Extra found note: It's pretty easy to tell if you have a counterfeit.

-An unofficial pressing will have hand etched matrices rather than machine printed.
-The playback has noticeable background noise. Depending on how they were looked after, some official copies will have that too obviously.
-The colours on the fake copy's sleeve will be lighter.
-The sleeve of the fake copy will be flexible and thin, versus an official copy which is thicker cardboard.
-The three black Mercury lines on the top right hand corner of the sleeve will carry over across the top of an official sleeve, visible from both the front and back of the cover. An unofficial copy will simply have three lines printed on the front, not reaching over the top of the sleeve.

This is the 'Real Deal.' Not one of those counterfeit albums!

Album looks perfect. Colors sharp, album looks as if 'NEW"...as if walking into a record store to buy in the release year of 1970.
