HUNKY DORY 1971 ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING RELEASE ON RCA RECORDS WITH THE ULTRARARE LAMINATED SLEEVE.
Up untill a few years ago this unbelievably rare Bowie original went totally unoticed !
Only in recent years have Bowie collectors realised just how near immpossible this LP is to find .
As you can see by the pictures , I have taken pictures of the SUPERARE original laminated sleeve side by side with the 1972 re-release that 99.9% of Bowie collectors are holding ,and wrongly thinking they own an original .Quite simply , they do not ,far from it !
Hunky Dory on its November 71 release was just another Bowie flop .Not until the success of Ziggy Stardust , almost a year later , folks started to hunt for Bowies earlier works. RCA quickly re-released the Hunky Dory`s we all know and love , and even though they are dated 1971, ALL THESE RE-RELEASES WERE WITH THE NONE LAMINATED SLEEVES AND ALL , ALL, ALL, OF THEM WERE PRESSED IN 1972 , POST ZIGGY STARDUST .
Dig out your own copy ,chances are it will not be laminated , (who am I trying to kid ? IT ISNT LAMINATED !).The original 71 laminations were pressed in tiny numbers due to ridiculassly poor sales .
These original 71 laminations are by far and away SUPERIOR to the 72 releases both in terms or artwork and they are just better made . Look at the two together ,examine the quality of the artwork ,as you can see the 71 Hunky Dory is a world away from the 72 version .Much, much deeper , sharper colours , much more defined and just a superior print job .Look at the later more common issue that everybody owns ...Its DRAB , BAD and DULL AS DITCHWATER !
On the back of the original 71 LP sleeve you can see where the lamination ends just near the spine , and the spine is perfectly intackt .
The LP and sleeve are both in near mint condition , no wringwear no tares or rips and no unwanted handwriting anywhere on the item . Also the original inner sleeve is present .
This is a ridicculassly rare record . In terms of rarety its easily up there with the Philips 69 LP and the MWSTW Dress cover .
Just try and find another ...Then find one in this condition , you will have your hands full with that task .
As ive said untill recent years this rare collectable has gone virtually unoticed right here in Bowie`s own back yard .When Bowiephiles from Europe The USA and Asia and the rest of the world wake up to this , the price will soar and the skys the limmit !
