Dakotas – “I can’t break the news to myself” / “The spider and the fly”, UK Philips, 1968.
Record: VG+ (now… here we have a 45 I have never seen with full-on sheen – I’ve seen 3-4 “live”, but all pre-2000… it’s become silly rare. They have always had this light smudgy dulling, but not the kind you get from “sweating”. Maybe it’s from how the groove was cut? Apart from the aforementioned defect, it’s actually very nice with only tiny very faint and superficial short-whisters/lines scattered about)
Not just a monster freakbeat flip (or is it very early Freakrock?), but it has a superb version of the classic Ben E. King track on the a-side - one of the best UK northern soul covers made by a white band I know of.
