Description

An original 1st press of the debut from '67 on UK Decca. Matrix 1A/1A. Stampers 1B/1C - one of the 1st ever copies to hit the market!. Decca deep groove - as you should find on a true 1st. Sounds fantastic in true Mono!!! Cat has a warm tone and a lot of the delivery is in the vocal - so the performance is extremely reliant on the audio in the midrange where the vocal has the space to spread-out. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Mono cover with pinched spine. We also have the original Decca inner sleeve to. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In great condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I can make out a few light marks per side,  but thankfully nothing that seems to trouble these deep mono grooves too much. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation per side. Lovely quiet intros and inbetweens and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Expect a few crackles in one isolated spot per side.....e.g. track 4 side 2 [and maybe a couple of slight ticks]. This sort of audio relies heavily on 'presence' and atmosphere. And for that you need a quiet background. And this early heavy pressing is well capable of delivering a stirring performance. The strings in Hummingbird are so realistic...... Just remember the surface might exhibit a few light markings - so if you need pristine surfaces...you might need to look elsewhere.
Cover (Vg+) The front may well look white....but is a shade off white - so don't miss that. To be honest due to the aesthetic it fits and looks superb. Slight more ageing evidence on the rear - but nothing unsightly. Hardly any edge wear with firm openings. The spine is 90% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg) A bit aged. Bag present. No splits.
