Description

HMV ASD 521 (1963) ***(NIMBUS AUDIOPHILE RECUT)*** ENGLISH STRING MUSIC Sinfonia of London conducted by Sir John Barbirolli
ELGAR: Introduction and Allegro, for Strings Serenade in E minor VAUGHAN WILLIAMS: Tallis Fantasia Greensleeves Fantasia
Recorded in the superb acoustic of London's Kingsway Hall.
This record is felt by many to contain the definitive accounts of these works. Elgar's music was particularly suited to Barbirolli's style and he was often able to plumb depths of feeling and emotion in it in a unique way.
The sound of the recoding is just gorgeous with warm natural sounding strings coupled with the hall's natural reverb that seems to have been created especially for this music.
NIMBUS
In the mid 80s the HiFi magazine "Practical HiFi" commissioned a set of audiophile recuts of well known LPs. These ranged right across the board from Little Feat and Rickie Lee Jones to Miles Davis and Vaughan Williams.
The cuts were made by Nimbus who at the time had the most neutral sounding and audibly cleanest disc cutting set-up in the UK.

Nimbus went to the trouble of taking their cutting lathe apart and restoring and re-engineering many of its parts to far closer tolerances as well as rebuilding the associated electronics.

The results were a revelation: A far cleaner sound than previously available with

absolutely no end-of-side distortion.

Upper frequency detail is more convincingly etched and the bass is more evenly extended with no perceptible "humps" in the response curve.

The vinyl used is of the highest quality and is comparable to that used by JVC in Japan for silent replay.
