GENESIS UK MONO LP Decca LK4990 From Genesis To Revelation Beatles Floyd Rare!

Please read carefully BEFORE bidding:-

GENESIS ~ From Genesis To Revelation UK Decca MONO LP. LK 4990 with original  correct lyric inner sheet and “peep hole” sleeve.

Extremely rare UK Decca first pressing with Red Mono label, this copy has all the correct features of an absolutely first pressing of this LP.

Only around 150 copies of this LP exist in the Mono format and here is a rare and genuine opportunity to own an original first pressing mono copy of this fabulous debut LP by Genesis.

Please note that the following description is based on my own strict grading criteria using the UK Record Collector guidelines and grading system. Bid with confidence.

VINYL (VISUALLY) ~ FAIR

Matrix Numbers : ARL–8839.P-1B   / ARL-8840.P-1B

Mother stampers 1B / 1B.  Very first B stampers in the BUCKINGHAM sequence.

Overall I visually grade the vinyl as FAIR. The surfaces of the vinyl show considerable signs of wear.  In the main this is in the form of lots of fine surface hairlines, which cover the majority of both sides.    There are also a few heavier and more extensive marks, of varying sizes.

This copy has seen a lot of action and exhibits a lot of wear but having said that it is a viable copy overall and cannot be categorised as completely trashed, especially when played, as it plays through generally much better than it looks.

VINYL (Playback) ~  FAIR+ (with 1 skip on side 2)

Side 1 plays back at FAIR+ with a fairly large amount of crackle. There are also with some louder clicks across certain sections of side 1, but it plays through without any jumps or skips.   It plays generally consistently through the whole side.  When listening it is possible to focus on the music quite easily and any additional vinyl noise whilst obvious, is not completely distracting.

Side 2.  Play grades at FAIR.  Generally a bit more crackle than side 1, there is a slight increase in background crackle and noise through “In Hiding” and “One Day” .  At the beginning of the track “Window” there is small mark on the vinyl which causes the playback to stick through a very small section of around 30 seconds or so of this track.   Once this is corrected there are no more serious playback issues although the record remains fairly crackly until the end.

LABELS ~ EX-  Both labels are generally clean with no writing or significant defects.

Overall, if you are looking for a MINT vinyl copy then clearly this is not for you, but this copy will play through with the exception of the small mark in the middle of side 2, and whilst pretty crackly I would still say that it is a worthwhile listening experience.  Much of the music is pretty clear and generally only in the quieter passages does the surface noise really encroach into the listening experience. This represents a good chance to own this record, perhaps in anticipation of finding a better copy one day.

OUTER SLEEVE. ~ EX-

The laminated sleeve made by Robert Stace has the correct “Peep Hole” cover.  It is generally in excellent condition and has only a couple of creases to the front cover, some small amounts of the laminate bubbling at the spine and some feint ringwear on both the front and rear covers.  I’ve seen most copies of this sleeve in worse condition than this.  This copy is well above average in it’s condition, with no major marks, rips, tears or writing.  A nice strong condition example.

INNER SLEEVE.  VG

Correct Decca Red solid border inner sleeve.  The sleeve is in generally very good condition with no writing, staining or other marks.  It has a moderate amount of creasing and the inner poly bag has become detached partly from the paper outer, but it can still house the LP in the way in was intended to.

LYRIC INNER SHEET.  EX

This is a nice original and correct example of the very first inner sleeves.  Has the correct reference to both LK4990 and SKL 4990 catalogue numbers, only the very first run has reference to the LK4990 catalogue number, later issues refer to just SKL 4990, and it’s not uncommon for dealers to add in a later lyric sheet with only the SKL reference to try and make the sale of a red Mono label LP look more attractive.  This one is the real deal and only exhibits very mild signs of creasing, but essentially it is a really excellent example in top condition.

Overall this is an extremely rare record where the vinyl has been used a lot and displays lots of signs of use.  It plays through OK with the exception of one small section of around 30 seconds in the middle of side 2.  It is still possible to enjoy the music on offer throughout and the background noise whilst present, does not drown out the music.   The sleeve and inner have survived in much better shape and are excellent examples.

Postage and Packing:

All records are been placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping.  Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s
