Description

Epic Records LC 3081 recording of 4 Divertimenti Mozart, released in 1956. Album cover is a drawing by Andy Warhol.  According to Andy Warhol Record Covers, 1949-1987, Catalogue Raisonne, the drawing is based on Edgar Degas's Orchestra at the Opera, from about 1870. His illustration for this album is one of only four that Warhol based on work by other artists. Most of his other album covers are inspired by photographs.   The coppery background evokes the metal of the wind instruments for which Mozart's divertimenti were written.
