Camel : Mirage 2W/2W 1st Press

This first pressing plays with stunning audio throughout and with a clarity of sound that belies its age.  There is no interference and whilst you can tell it has been played due to some spindle wear this only demonstrates just how well the vinyl has been looked after.  The sonic quality is unbelievably good and I cannot find any fault.  This is another record that I am confident in grading as Mint on both sides.

The cover is in superb condition with hardly any shelf wear and the insert looks brand new.  The original inner is also in great shape with no real wear.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in lovely condition with a very strong glossy sheen and has no scratches.  I can only detect a small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines with just a slightly more obvious small one on S1 that has no affect on the audio.  The Deram labels are unmarked from some spindle wear and remain in great condition.

Play grading

The intro on 'Freefall' plays so clearly with only a handful of very quiet dust ticks at the start and as the percussion comes in the audio is faultless.  The opening vocal is just as strong and it continues to play in the same precise way with no interference.  The long instrumental section is 'as new' and the final vocal/instrumental ends the track with sublime quality once more.  A Mint start to the album for sure.

'Supertwister' plays with stunning clarity from the get go and the first quiet section just has one minor static tick.  The sonic quality is maintained to the very end and again Mint is fair.  You can't downgrade for a static tick!

The quiet intro on 'Nimrodel' plays to perfection and the percussive/brass section has no 'background' either.  One very light tick as the next section starts (so quiet you could easily miss it!) and the first vocal is 'as new' as is the long instrumental that follows.  The remainder of this classic track is faultless - each note is so sharp and precise and you would not think this record was pressed nearly 50 years ago!  The playback is STUNNING and the 'high octane' end section has no inner groove distortion and the quiet fade out has only a handful of light dust ticks.  I will grade as Mint- but Mint would not be overstating the case.

The quiet intro on 'Earthrise' plays beautifully with no interference, just a couple of dust ticks, and thereafter plays to the same standard as per S1.  It plays with incredible depth and power and you can turn it up to 'max' with no fear of distortion.  The sound is so clear and is another Mint- track without question.

The high energy intro on 'Lady Fantasy' plays perfectly and the opening vocal keeps up this fine standard also.  It proceeds in the same way with a clarity, definition and warmth that could not be any more impressive.  As per so many of the other albums I am selling this one cannot be faulted.  The quieter mid section is a case in point - the clarity is 'as new' with no 'background' of any kind and all the sections play with phenomenal sonic quality including the high octane end sequence.  Mint- is a fair reflection of the audio here.  What an album!

In summary this first pressing plays with sensational audio and is another FINAL UPGRADE to add to the list.  There are no clicks, pops or static and the clarity of sound is of a standard you so rarely find today.  The only 'background' are a handful of dust ticks and obviously they are not intrusive.  In essence this is as good as it was when first released back in '74.  A stunning album.

The Cover, Insert & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in great condition with very little wear.  In fact the only obvious wear is a small split on the bottom edge next to the right corner.  Aside from that the edges are very clean with no rubbing and the spine has only a couple of very minor marks.  All four corners are in excellent order with barely any wear apart from that already mentioned and the opening edge is near perfect with only a couple of tiny 'nicks'.  The front cover is unmarked and the back cover is almost as good with only a small number of faint spots, they may even have been there from initial production.  A very clean example overall.

The original insert is basically 'as new' and the original die-cut paper inner is also in superb shape with no side splits or tears, no age related fading and hardly any creasing.
