CAMEL 1st LP Debut Self-Titled UK 1st Pressing MCA Hexagon. MCA MUPS 473 Released February 1973.
This auction is for an original UK 1st pressing the blue / black hexagon label. It’s a really nice copy overall which has just some minor signs of use.
Grading: -
Outer Sleeve: EX
The delicate single sleeve is graded as Excellent. Overall, it’s a very clean example which has been looked after carefully. There are just some very minor signs of use, including a few small creases adjoining the spine and bottom edge. There is a slight push in the top edge along a 1cm section, but the seam is still completely intact, so any damage is purely cosmetic and minor, but I mention it for completeness. The back cover is remarkably clean for this LP, it’s often suffering from being dirty with ring wear on the very pale cream coloured surface. The spine is excellent and very bright and fully readable which is most unusual for this LP.
Vinyl: EX
Under bright halogen light the vinyl exhibits just light signs of use with a relatively small number of hairline marks. There is a short mark at the start of track 3 which is a little more pronounced that the others. More on this in the audio description below. Overall, it’s a very nice condition example of this LP with a deep black gloss shine to it. These early Decca pressings are so much better than the later MCA pressings from 1975 onwards that were pressed at EMI.
Audio: EX
For the majority the album plays extremely well, with superb audio that is both dynamic and clear. The small mark at the start of track 3 on side 1 produces 4 or 5 audible clicks but having noted this, the LP is still a superb copy and plays beautifully for the vast majority of the duration.

The labels are clean with little signs of use.
Overall, this is an excellent copy of this LP l and is way, way above the average condition for this LP.

Postage and Packing:
All records are placed in a separate poly lined inner and stored flat outside the sleeve and then placed sealed in a re-sealable polythene outer prior to shipping. Records are then placed between square cardboard sheets before packaging into cruciform mailers especially designed for LP’s. These mailers are a high-grade type which reinforce the edges around the LP and as such they are larger and weigh more than standard mailers. My postage costs reflect the additional size and weight of the packaging that I use.
