this record is from August 1929, right at the end of Edison Records.
this flat ‘needle cut’ record was the Edison’s attempt to sell records to people
who didn’t own already an outdated Edison phonograph. but this attempt
was too little, too late. the new method used a standard lateral groove
and not the ultra-fine Edison vertical groove. This is record #14016 and
the last known record issued on Edison is #14077.  you can see this
release is right at the end of the company’s record division.

a Very Good + Condition Copy. 
a VG+ Excellent Condition Copy with Shiny Clean Shellac and
Labels [see multiple photos for further condition explanations]. the shellac
and labels have some light visual wear, but nothing severe. it's been
FULLY PLAY TESTED and it plays and SOUNDS GREAT with just slightly
more than average surface noise typical to antique shellac 78s like this.
no skips, repeats or cracks to the record!
The California Ramblers
The California Ramblers were a popular and prolific jazz group from  the 1920s that recorded hundreds of songs under many different labels.  Three of the members of the band, Red Nichols, Jimmy Dorsey and  Tommy Dorsey would go on to front big bands in later decades. Adrian Rollini also recorded many sides for the Ramblers. 
The original bandmembers were from Ohio, but chose the name  California Ramblers because they thought people would be less inclined  to listen to a jazz band from the Midwest. the Ramblers recorded originally  for Vocalion Records in November 1921. they also recorded for Arto Records and Emerson. In late 1924 the Ramblers signed with Columbia Records  agreeing to waive all royalties to Columbia for the right to record for  other companies under different names - they recorded for nearly  every independent label in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.  using over 100 unique aliases. 
The California Ramblers were the first group to record the  classic song "Has Anybody Seen My Gal?" in 1925 and many people  in or associated with the band — Adrian Rollini, Red Nichols,  Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Elwood Madeo Jr., Adrian and  manager Ed Kirkeby — became some of the most famous  and influential figures of the Big Band era.

78rpm records are as fragile as an eggshell. they break 
incredibly easily. but that said, we have extensive experience 
packing and shipping 78s and know how to ship them to 
avoid breakage. this means higher shipping charges, 
though, as it requires extra packing materials. 

because of the cost of extra shipping supplies and the additional 
weight from properly packing fragile 78s like this, the shipping cost 
will be by weight and invoiced at end of auction - shipping is NOT the 
silly-low-$4-cost that eBay would like sellers to charge to ship records. 

that said, we will charge as little as possible, but do not bid if you 
expect to pay nothing to ship a 78. it takes time and costs money to do it
right, and we know how to get it to you in one piece! 

calculated shipping is set to Priority for US buyers, but we will happily
ship it Media Mail if you'd like (in some cases it's cheaper that way). please ignore shipping quote generated by eBay! we will invoice you will 
actual shipping cost when auction has ended!
