If you read the name John Cale you're most likely thinking of his avant-garde anarchy he brought with his viola to make The Velvet Underground better. But with his first post Velvet Underground album, the Welshman appeared to have got it out of his system and settled on making Americana-tinged psych-pop. 'Hello, There' has a Beatles-y feel and 'Adelaide' has a chirpy Gilbert O'Sullivan feel. Whilst his counterpart in Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, is better known for more accessible musical styles, on his debut, Cale's shown he's equally capable of it but he seemingly never felt the need to stick to it for his entire career.
