Description
Up for sale is a very scarce instrumental pop/jazz 45 rpm vinyl record by the nephew of the legendary showman Louis Prima. Buddy (Budwood) Prima was a fixture on the jazz scene in New Orleans, Louisiana in the 1950s and 1960s. On this single, which is marked "DJ Copy" and "Not For Sale", he is featured as a pianist and is backed by an ensemble that really pops.

Buddy Prima, who was also noted as a vocalist and trumpeter, in addition to as a pianist, is mentioned in several memoirs about the jazz scene in New Orleans, Louisiana. In the book Jazz in New Orleans: The Postwar Years Through 1970, the author - Charles Suhor - mentions (page 9) that during 1957-58, he had a gig with Buddy at the Fountain Lounge on Harrison Avenue. (The combo consisted, in addition to Prima and Suhor, of Bill Huntington and Clinton Montz.) In fact, Suhor had played with Buddy Prima as early as 1954. (The Fountain Lounge was owned by Buddy's father, Leon Prima, who was the brother of Louis Prima.) On page 256, Suhor refers to Buddy Prima as a "comer among the city's young modernists". Still later in this book (page 287), Suhor recollects that during the 1950s, he would jam with Buddy Prima, Bill Huntington, and Al Hermann. Others associated with this group included Charlie Blancq, Bruce Ahrens, and Reed Vaughan.
Apparently, in 2018, a biopic documentary was released titled: "Play Pretty The Buddy Prima Story". According to the website of IMDB, the director and writer was Zephirin Hymel IV and starred Robert Arceneaux, Kirk Bush, and, as young Buddy, Robert Greene. I don't know if this movie has yet been released.
