Description
This particular pressing of The Beatles' 'Rubber Soul' is among the rarest issued. Released for export only in 1967, the matrix numbers both end with a -3 and the covers printed were stamped with a silver or as in this case, a black "STEREO" designation at the top right corner (See photos). Very few come up for sale...and when they do they are usually found played to death with tattered covers. Thankfully the copy offered here has escaped most of these problems.
Cover: VG.....some crease lines are seen on the front cover and along the spine. 3" seam split to the top and bottom edges but they are not the offensive gaping type. The back cover is fairly clean with the only notable issue being a small round area at the top sustaining some paper loss. The colors to the front cover photograph are still vivid and striking. A more than presentable jacket for this exceedingly rare copy.
Original EMI Inner-Sleeve: VG....so often found missing, this is the correct inner-sleeve that was included inside the cover for this release. Exceptionally clean but due to the hefty record inside, 3 seam splits were the result. Obviously these can easily be repaired... but why bother? Better to keep the integrity of the original material intact. A higher quality audiophile inner-sleeve will be included to house the precious record.
Record: Excellent to Excellent(+) ....pressed on thick and heavy vinyl, the gloss and shine to the surface of both sides is impressive. Under strong light one can see some hairlines and marks but the vast majority are superficial and don't elicit significant surface noise and/or ticks. The audio is superb...really wonderful....detailed, clear, balanced, and distortion-free. Even the last song on Side 1 ('Michelle') is not marred by flutter or distortion which occasionally occurred when playing this track on the 1st UK (-2/-2 ) Stereo and Mono pressing.
