THE WAILERS - CATCH A FIRE

1973 UK Island LP    ILPS-9241    Stereo    33?rpm

A very nice copy of the Wailers' first Island records outing in the iconic Zippo cover.

This is the original UK first issue, with the pink rim Island labels and the correct scratched out matrices and "STERLING" stamp in the dead wax. 

It comes complete with the pale blue poly-lined Island company inner sleeve showing the St. Peter's Square address.

The full matrix details on this copy are:-

Side A has a machine-stamped "BML 2001 A-3U" which has been scratched through and replaced by a machine-stamped "ILPS-9241 A-3U".

Side B has a machine-stamped "BML 2001 B-4U" which has been scratched through and replaced by a machine-stamped "ILPS-9241B-4U". 

Both sides have a small machine-stamped "STERLING" and "1" mother stamps at 9 o'clock. 

The stampers at 3 o'clock are "R" and "P" on side A and "R" and "11" on side B.

GRADING:-

RECORD - NM-   Looks really nice - minimal lightest surface scuffs only are visible when held to the light. The record lies completely flat on the turntable (no warp) and it has no pimples/dimples or other irregularities in the pressing. It plays to grade with superb fidelity, no clicks or pops and absolutely minimal background noise - only the faintest light ticks are occasionally audible. 

LABELS - EX   Very clean with faint traces of spindle marks. The A side label has some fine cracks/tears around the spindle hole and the B side label has some surface rubbing (also near the centre hole) - there are close ups of both labels in the pictures.        

COVER - VG+   The hinged cover is still solid and opens/closes smoothly. It has no stickers or writing. There are spots of edge wear (and some longer patches of rubbing on one edge of the lid) - but no splits. There are also some scattered creases around the corners and edges of the front and back surfaces. The front cover has some small white spots of rubbing (see final picture) and there are a couple similar on the back - these are hidden when the "lid" is closed. There is wear and creasing around the rivet area but the rivet itself is fully intact and secure - and there is a bit of surplus card which has got caught around the rivet edge on the front (which you can see in the pictures). All in all a very decent example of this unique cover (which, unlike many, has not come apart at the hinge). Please see the pictures!

INNER SLEEVE - VG+   The poly-lined inner sleeve is fully intact (no splits) but creased and age-browned.

GRADING SCALE:   SS/M/NM/EX/VG/G(+/-) visual grading - and only play-tested if specifically indicated above. NM is near mint not mint - but I rarely use M unless I know that the record has not been played. I try to grade accurately and fairly, as reflected by my 100% positive feedback.

PACKAGING:    Your record will be securely packaged, with the record (in its inner sleeve) outside the main cover to avoid damage to the cover. Records with non-stock inner sleeves will be placed in a separate plain inner sleeve to avoid damage to the original inner. Record and cover are placed inside a protective outer sleeve secured to a card stiffener to minimise movement inside the package during shipping.

I use custom box mailers and card stiffeners for additional protection. No charge is made for packaging. Recycled (but secure) packaging may be used where available. 

SHIPPING COSTS AND PAYMENT TERMS:

                 - Shipping costs are Royal Mail's actual prices and no charge is made for packaging or handling. If I miscalculate the actual cost, a full refund of any excess will be promptly made.

                 - I will gladly combine shipping if you win additional items - based on combined weight (and subject to Royal Mail's maximum weight limits). 

                 - Payment is due within 3 days of invoice please (unless other arrangements have been agreed before bidding).

                 - Please contact me on close of auction if you are still bidding on other items or anticipate any delay in payment.

                 - Item may be relisted if payment is not received within 7 days.
