Description
Re-release of the second Black Sabbath LP (180g). Originally released in 1970, the album "Paranoid" is considered one of the most important and style-defining works of heavy metal. The title track - according to the band, created within 20 minutes based on a riff by Tony Iommi - was to become Black Sabbath's only Top 10 hit. With "War Pigs" and "Iron Man" two more classics are included. Ozzy Osbourne's expressive vocals and Tony Iommi's harsh guitar playing are still unique today and have had a lasting influence on rock and metal acts all over the world
BLACK SABBATH celebrates the 50th anniversary of their million-selling album "Paranoid" in 2020 with a 5-LP edition, which was released on October 9th with the vinyl debut of two concerts from 1970.
"Paranoid": Super Deluxe Edition" contains the original album as well as a rare quadruple mix of the 1974 album folded to stereo, and two 1970 concerts from Montreux and Brussels, first recorded on vinyl. This five LP set comes with a hardback book with detailed liner notes with interviews with all four band members, rare photos and memorabilia, a poster and a replica of the tour book sold during the "Paranoid" tour.
Following the success of the band's self-titled debut in early 1970, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward returned in the autumn of that year with "Paranoid". The record became the band's first album to top the British charts and sold more than four million copies in the US alone. Even today songs like "War Pigs", "Planet Caravan", "Iron Man" and of course "Paranoid" still inspire a new generation of musicians all over the world.
"Paranoid": Super Deluxe Edition" the first two LPs contain the original album as well as a quadraphonic mix of the album. Originally released in 1974 on vinyl and an 8-track cassette, but then sold out, the Quad Mix for this set is now available as a foldable stereo mix on vinyl.
The last three LPs in the collection mark the official vinyl debut of two live performances in 1970, the first of which was recorded on 31 August in Montreux, Switzerland, shortly before the release of "Paranoid". It shows the band, already a solid musical unit, thundering through new songs like "Hand Of Doom" and "Iron Man", while "N.I.B." and "Behind The Wall Of Sleep" from their debut album are mixed in. The second concert was recorded a few months later in Brussels during the band's performance for Belgian television. Unofficial versions of this classic have been circulated in the past, but they have never sounded so good.
