This sale is for a collection of Bill Haley unusual memorabilia.
The first 3 items are in a frame.
1) Letter hand-written by Martha Haley after Bill’s passing.
Dear Kenny Thank you for the beautiful flowers (please see photograph)
2) Bill Haley’s Funeral Card.
3) Bill’s favourite photograph from Fame studios with Kenny Denton’s long Arm.
4) “Everyone Can Rock And Roll” White Label Test Pressing. This copy has the name Bob Young from Status Quo fame written in Biro on the back cover. This was to be Bob's copy. But he decided he would wait for the finished album. The front cover a mark over the letter Y of “Haley: where a sticker has been removed. The album is in mint condition.
5) “Everyone Can Rock And Roll” Single in sleeve with original press release. Single Mint condition the cover is has a crease in the corner.
6) Letter from the MD Rod Buckle to the Fame Gang. Please attached address sheet.
7) Original handwritten scribble date/work sheet for the re-recording of 3 titles in the UK for the 10inch vinyl record. Rock Around The Clock / Shake Rattle And Roll / See You Later Alligator. The three titles on this special collector's edition release feature Bill's original Sonet vocals with the music from the original multi-tracks removed and replaced by some tough young players from the Kenny Denton team. According to son Jack - "this was a project very dear to his heart - I am sure that he (Bill) would have been very pleased with them."
8) Original 3 page press release for Bill (Journey to Fame CD)
9) Customs declaration letter for tapes to be brought back to the UK for the CD remix.
10) Various typed letters Hugh McCallum (Bill’s friend and Fan Club manager)and Kenny Denton between 99 to 2005. Plus 2 1979 Fan club News letters.
11) Dyne American Publication letters from John Von Hoelle relating to the release of the book he and Jack Haley wrote. With a photo copy of the Meyers Music agreement dated the Jan 15th 1960.
Please note due to their age some of the paper work has creased edges.
12) “See ya Later Alligator” hard to find Sonet T-7737 The single is in mint condition and the cover is unfinished and open (Never sealed).
13) The purchaser will also receive by email the full chapter on Bill Haley by Kenny Denton from his book “THERE AIN’T NO RULES IN ROCK ‘N’ ROLL” Which is no longer available. This is a complete history of the recordings and some amazing stories told to Kenny by Bill.
14) B/W Photograph of Bill on Stage 1979. 8 x 10 Inches.
15) The Journey To Fame CD 2004, which is still shrink-wrapped.
This CD has now become very rare and sort after.
This is a Limited-edition CD released independently by Kenny Denton, who was the producer of Bill Haley's final recording sessions in June 1979 at Muscle Shoals, Alabama that produced the album Everyone Can Rock And Roll for Sonet Records.
Tracks 5-9 consist of in-studio recordings of Haley talking to Denton and his session musicians (including discussing recordings planned for the session but not undertaken) and performing alternative vocals takes of the songs, plus false starts.
Tracks 1, 3, 4, 10, 11 are remixes combining Haley's vocals from a June 1968 Sonet Records and modern studio backing; three examples of these were issued on a Sonet EP in 1989 titled "Bill Haley" and receive their first CD release here (the ones simply subtitled "Remix"), along with two previously unreleased remixes of "Shake, Rattle and Roll."
Track 2 is a radio interview from late 1980 - only a month or so before Haley's death, owing to references made to the December 1980 murder of John Lennon - featuring Denton and Dave Miller, who was Haley's first record producer at Holiday and Essex Records between 1951 and 1954 and is the only recorded interview Dave Miller ever gave relating to Haley and those early Rock n Roll days on his Essex label.
