Big Star - Radio City Ardent ADS - 1501 Unplayed MINT- US promo LP with Ardent Folder and Promotional Inserts.
Well here's one that doesn't turn up everyday. This in fact is the only copy of this album I've ever seen in the glossy laminated folder with 1/2 a dozen promo inserts featuring numerous reviews of the bands live performances and recordings, reprinted from a variety of sources, as well as the LP with a promo sticker on the cover. Though this sticker has in fact come loose from the sleeve, it is intact and of course included in this package. The sleeve has the beginnings of a minor seam split along the top of the sleeve, where the fragile paper slick appears to be all that holds the card sleeve together. But the top IS intact, I only just noticed this while grading the LP for this auction. The folder does have a bit of distress on the inside where the address has partially worn off, see pic #6 for evidence of this.
The vinyl is clean & unmarked. Ardent pressings were not legendary for their quality, but fear not. This 100% first pressing is in excellent condition, and does sound terrific.
As is well known the story goes that this LP failed to sell in any notable quantities owing to problems with Ardents distribution & promotion. Well, the fact of this promotional package existing would appear to suggest that the label DID make an effort to get the word out. That this particular promo package is all but undocumented could raise some speculation as regards just how committed the label was to promoting the LP. Perhaps this was one of only a few to make it's way (barely) into the world? Irrespective this item must be seen as one of the scarcest artifacts existing from Big Stars brief career. More WLP test pressings of "3" have surfaced through the years than have copies of Radio City with the promotional materials intact.
One final note, the photo is from a later RYKO disc promo campaign and is added as a little something extra to round out what must be as scarce & desirable a Big Star item as has been offered over the past forty years.
