Description

Here is another MINT STILL SEALED BEATLES or BEATLES-RELATED LP from my collection. Please check my other auctions for others.

In this auction:

·       “THE BEST OF GEORGE HARRISON” by George Harrison

·       This is Capitol Records ST-11578.

·       This LP was issued November 8, 1976.

·       This LP is in MINT STILL SEALED CONDITION and STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP. It is a “Designated Promo” LP with the promo punch hole at the top right corner. There is very slight wear on 3 corners where the shrink wrap is worn.

·       The Shrink Wrap has “breathe holes” and there is NO BAR CODE.

·       There is a Capitol Records gold-foil sticker attached to the front shrink wrap that reads: CERTIFIED “BEST OF” ALBUM around the perimeter of the sticker and THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER SOLD in the center.

·       Based upon this gold-foil sticker on this LP, I believe that this is PROBABLY A FIRST PRESSING (1976) OF THIS LP. Here’s why: Capitol Records initiated its 1976 selling slogan, “THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER SOLD” in late 1975 that ran for the 1976 calendar year. The slogan was a “take-off” of the title of the 1950s Biblical motion picture “THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD”, about the life of Jesus Christ starring Max von Sydow.  In fact, Capitol Records also monopolized on this new selling slogan by releasing a PROMOTIONAL LP entitled “THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER SOLD” in 1976 (SPRO-8511/8512) that contained 3 Beatles’ songs, 1 song from Ringo Star, and 1 song from John Lennon along with cuts from other Capitol Records recording artists like The Beach Boys, Grand Funk Railroad, Steve Miller Band, Bob Seger, Glen Campbell, Helen Reddy, and Leo Kottke.

·       I have only seen this sticker on certain late 1975 LPs (ie: Ringo Starr’s “BLAST FROM YOUR PAST” LP released November 20, 1975) and others in 1976 including the LP in this auction.

·       There were 6 pressings of this LP by Capitol Records. The covers of the last 4 pressing (1978 – 1988) had bar codes added. The second pressing was in 1977 after the Capitol slogan, “THE GREATEST MUSIC EVER SOLD”, was discontinued. This is additional info that supports that this is PROBABLY a 1976 FIRST PRESSING.

·       This LP contains 13 GREAT George Harrison compositions from his Beatles-years (from Capitol and Apple LPs) and from his post-Beatles years (from his solo Apple LPs). I included an enlarged image of the song tracks listing for you to see his GREAT tunes on this LP.
