THE BEATLES - 'PLEASE, PLEASE ME'
1963 UK 1st MONO PRESSING LP
**BLACK & GOLD FACTORY SAMPLE LABELS**
This excellent and rare 1963 mono 1st pressing is on the UK black & gold Parlophone label: PMC 1202
The labels have the incorrect 'Dick James Mus. Co.' publishing credits for songs: 1 & 2 on side 1 and 4 & 6 on side 2.
The side 1 label carries a genuine, pointed-ended Factory Sample sticker.
The 'MZ(T)' tax/price code is visible in the centre of the side 1 label. (the 'T' is presumably hidden beaneath the Factory Sample sticker).
Housed in a correct, front laminated, tri-flipback 'E.J. Day' printed cover with the 'Angus McBean' credit in the extreme lower right corner.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' poly-lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N
Stamper numbers: 1/A & 1/GR
Labels: EXCELLENT PLUS
Visual: EXCELLENT
Both surfaces are extremely clean & bright, retaining their deep gloss shines with no groove-whitening from overplay.
Viewed in strong daylight side 1 bears a few very faint fingernail scuffs but no heavy marks or any scratches.
Side 2 displays a few light surface lines and an occaisional very light hairline stylus scratch but nothing deep or 'feeleable'.
Close inspection beneath a halogen desk lamp reveals some wispy sleeve removal hairlines but no additional significant marks or blemishes.
Pressed on thick & heavy sharp-edged vinyl, which lies 100% flat on both sides with no signs of dishing or warping.
Audio: EXCELLENT
This copy has been carefully but certainly not over-played and there is no major lessening to the sound quality.
Careful listening at volume, reveals no crackle or significant groovewear distortion and the sound is overall clear and powerful with a well defined bass.
Both run-ins & all bands play extremely quietly. I detected just a single light tick between 5 & 6 on side 1, nothing more.
There are no heavy clicks, jumps, repeats or any other major audible faults anywhere.
Cover: EXCELLENT MINUS
A vibrant front panel with a clean & glossy unscratched laminante bearing just a few light wrinkles to the edges but no heavy creasing or significant faults.
The corners display just tiny rubs and are square & unbumped. The opening edges are clean sharp & unworn with no tears or feathering.
The rear shows some minor handling & storage wear with a few faint foxing spots & 2 thin ink smudges but no major discolouration or missing paper.
The easily damaged lower edge is in perfect condition with no laminate flaking, splits or missing paper.
All the delicate 'flipbacks' are in place & intact, and the spine clean & perfectly worded.
Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT PLUS **Please see my other listings for some more rare UK & Beatles Records** Strict visual grading in daylight and directly under a halogen desk lamp.
All discs are carefully play graded in their entirety on a Rega P9 deck with an Ortofon Kontrapunkt 'A' cartridge.
