The Beatles – Please Please Me - Genuine mono 1963 UK 1st pressing with 1st mother stamper on the Black & Gold Parlophone Label, with Dick James label credits on side one and Northern Songs label credits on side two, early MT tax code, catalogue number PMC 1202.
A very respectable copy of this Black Gold pressing with the ultra rare Dick James/Northern Songs ‘crossover’ labels and early 1M stamper, indicating an early production copy produced on or around the very first day of production and ahead of the 22nd March 1963 release date. The copy still retains it’s original powerful and dynamic sound associated with these great UK black gold pressings.

Labels: EXCELLENT-
A very presentable set of these early and rare labels. There is some wear and marks to the labels but the all important gold lettering is unworn and retains much of its original freshness. There is very little wear around the spindle hole. Side one carries the earliest Dick James label credits. Side two carries the Northern Songs label credits and also the MT tax code.
Visual: VERY GOOD+
There are various marks and light hairlines to the vinyl visible in strong daylight and the record has clearly been played many times, however there are no deep marks or scratches. Unlike most early copies where ‘dulling’ to the vinyl occurs, this vinyl still retains much of it’s original high gloss sheen. The vinyl grades at very good plus. The heavy duty disc lies 100% flat on the turntable.
Audio: Side one EXCELLENT+ Side two EXCELLENT-
This copy has all the characteristic power and dynamism of a very early black gold pressing - The opening track I Saw Here Standing There plays superbly and grades at excellent to near mint as does Misery. Side one plays with only light static in some places and grades at excellent+. Side two has some noticeable surface noise with some light pops and ticks, most notably on Baby It’s You and Do you Want to Know a Secret, although the music signals on these tracks are unworn and undamaged and remain detailed and clear. Love Me Do and PS I love You grade at excellent+. The easily damaged and innermost track Twist & Shout is clear and powerful and grades at excellent+. Overall, side two grades at excellent minus. The record does not jump or stick.
Cover
VERY GOOD+
This is the correct cover for this early black gold vinyl pressing with the Angus McBean photo credit located on the extreme right. A presentable 1963 1st issue E J Day cover with the front panel retaining much of its original high gloss sheen. The opening edge has not been trimmed and is original and unfeathered. There is some general wear associated with a cover of this age, most noticeably to the bottom right hand corner where part of the ‘Angus Mcbean’ photo credit is not legible. The rear panel is clean and unyellowed with no tape marks and grades at or around excellent minus. All flipbacks are intact and there is no writing or personalisation to any part of the cover. The spine is undamaged and is in excellent condition with the writing clearly visible.

Original clear 1963 EMI inner with no seam splits.
