READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.

I recently took in a large collection of Beatles albums, which range in condition from a nice VG to EX.  They feature labels from first pressing Capitol to Apple through to the purple Capitol label.  I tossed out all the garbage, and will be selling these copies interspersed with my regular inventory for anyone who would like to have great play-copies, but who generally can’t afford the rarer variations for sale.

The vinyl is collectable on these, although the covers may be a bit dirty, and/or split.  Here’s one that’s a great, solid play copy.

And it’s very hard to find!

Beatles LP 1968 Sgt. Pepper Hardest Subsidiary of Labels, Refreshed A1 Plates, EX!

Collectors are well-familiar with, and are unimpressed with the usual Sgt. Pepper “Subsidiary of…” labels.  Those labels have small text layout, with the title on one line in micro print.  (See compere photo.)  The very first copies that were printed up featured straight-transfer labels from the first pressing, and the only difference was that the additional “Subsidiary of…” text was added to the bottom perimeter.

Believe it or not, I first became aware that these labels even existed when I saw that someone had made earrings out of them!  It took just over a decade before I found a copy.  This is a second copy, which came from a collection I just bought.

And it might well be your keeper.

Vinyl--- VG++/EX.  Just as with the first pressing that had the A1 plates, this copy also has slightly dulled grooves on Side 1.  Otherwise, there are only a few scant lines.  Side 2 looks beautiful, close to unplayed.

Plates--- A1/A1.  Refreshed plates equals better sound quality.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- VG.  Cover has general wear.  Bottom seam has a center split about 3 inches long.  Masking tape at bottom left corner with the number 52 written on it.  Top left corner of the back cover has the letter “F” in black Magic Marker.  Back cover has moderate ringwear.

Gatefold--- VG.  Presents as Excellent, but with a 2-inch center seam split.

Insert--- Um…ewwuh.  You’re going to need to replace this one.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Both labels look nearly 1968-brand new, except for just a few light spindle marks per side.  Beautiful labels.

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG.  Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Each side seam has a 3-inch split.  Sleeve has yellowed.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: N/A

Although the packaging for this LP isn’t in the best collectable condition, this album is.  And it’s very rare.  If you have an EX set of packaging, you will have an incredibly hard to find pressing.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
