Description
THE BEATLES - 'BEATLES FOR SALE'
1964 UK *MONO* 1st PRESSING LP
This true 1st pressing carries the initial, short-lived -3N/-3N matrices which were quickly updated by the more common '-4N/-4N' cut. There is little to tell between the two with the only significant difference being that on the -4N cut there is a significant drop-out at the end of 'No Reply' as John sings the final ..'cause you walked hand-in-hand..' which is not present on the -3N version.
Here is a truely 1st-class EXCELLENT 1964 1st UK pressing example on the yellow & black Parlophone label: PMC 1240
Both labels include the 'Sold in UK..' text & have 'Parlophone Co. Ltd..' rims.
The 'KT purchase tax code is present in the centre of the side 1 label.
Housed in an unusually light-coloured outer laminated, inner-flipback gatefold mono cover.
I have put this cover (right) aside with a regular example (left) in the 4th image to illustrate the colour variation.
Complete with its original 'Use Emitex' rice-paper lined inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: XEX 503-3N & XEX 504-3N
Stamper codes: 2,5/GPP & 4/GRT
Disc weight: 156g

Labels: EXCELLENT +
A superb, unworn set which bear little more than a small collection of tiny spindle marks around each centre hole.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Both playing surfaces of this well-looked after and cherished copy are perfectly clean & glossy in strong daylight which highlight just a few faint inner-sleeve removal marks on side 2 but no scuffs, marks or scratches anywhere. Close examination directly beneath my powerful halogen desk lamp reveals a number of harmless wispy inner-sleeve removal hairlines, mostly one side 1, but no other significant traces of wear. Both sides of this fine ealy copy lie 100% flat on the turntable with no dishing or warping.
Play: EXCELLENT
This well-looked after and seldom played early copy sounds fresh, clean & warm without any significant deterioration to the sound quality or any major faults throughout. My careful play check at volume detected just a touch of light background during the organ solo on 'Mr Moonlight' but that was all. There was no other sign of wear or a single click, pop or other such distractions on or between any of the tracks on this much maligned mono mix. Very hard to find a better sounding early copy.
Cover
EXCELLENT
This highly unusual, example bears a significantly lighter front & rear image than any other I have seen. The delicate front left is flat & glossy with just a few tiny spine wrinkles and 'thumbnail' on Paul's face, but no other major wear - even to the exposed outer edges. There is some bruising to the corners but no tears or splits to the ones near the spine. The rear panel is glossy and unmarked with just an inevitable light disc impression but no bends or creasing to any part. The inside of the gatefold is clean & black where it should be and still bears the original retailer's sticker on the left panel (which I have not attempted to remove). There is no damage to any part of the delicate central hinge. Both seams of the back pocket are smooth and unstressed and the spine is square, white & fully worded, complete with its factory pinched ends.
Inner-sleeve
EXCELLENT
Clean & crisp with some unavoidable storage wrinkles, but no splits, tears or writing.
