Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us.  Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable.  We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback.   We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING:   USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   All Canadian and Overseas shipping ~ Please inquire about rates. MINT Original 1968 first pressing vinyl on the old sixties BRITISH "TRANSATLANTIC" label = 52 years old and stunning clean ...
Vastly underrated, one of the *best* Lp's on this weeks listings.... .....................................................................................

Bert Jansch: Guitar, Arranger, Vocals, Performer John Renbourn: Guitar, Arranger, Sitar, Vocals, Performer Jacqui McShee: Arranger, Vocals, Performer Terry Cox: Percussion, Arranger, Drums, Vocals, Performer Danny Thompson: Bass, Arranger, Double Bass The line up above is as good as on any album in the 60s.
It's a clear spacious sound, with Danny Thompson and Terry Cox making for a distinctively deep sounding rhythm section while Renbourn and Jansch play their revolutionary guitar parts. Bert Jansch in particular creates a spellbinding sound, with his technique of picking notes from scales almost like a modal jazz musician. His style was the basis of Stairway to Heaven! Jimmy Page was a fan of his and tried to do it his way. Jacqui McShee was a vocalist in the same vein as Sandy Denny, singing in a pure toned folk style. But this album is more than that genre. The version of the very old traditional Bruton Town is one of our favourites here, and the general sound is what stands out. The modal melodies and a well produced album with lots of great playing...From the bowed double bass roar vs. crystal clear female voice on the Elizabethan melodies of “Let no man steal…”, to the extraordinaire web of expressive slapping and bending licks and rhythmic interactions of the twin acoustic guitars build atop the unstoppable rolls of the slacked snare & toms in “Bells”, in the fluently blended vibrato filled Folky vocal timbre and walking feel on a Blues structure as on “Hear my Call” or in the outstanding musicianship and tight group feel and the successful results while distorting conventional rules, with a double bass solo amidst the M/F vocal harmonies of a Folk theme, as on “Pentangling”, while displaying an unusual ease to mix the improvisation feel of Jazz with the time honoured structures of Folk music, Pentangle were a breath of fresh air in a genre looking for new ways of affirming itself.
The mourning Chant feel of “Mirage” is served by the parallel lines of the two guitars and bass and a drums statement that suddenly jumps to the front row mid way through, after being discreetly concealed below the melodies, and the band’s peculiar way of treating a 12 bars rural Blues and making it their own, shows on “Way behind the sun” marked by the way Jacqui adopts the style with ease, and their take on the traditional “Bruton Town” is done with M/F vocal harmony and the instruments flowing seamlessly like a torrent with a common purpose, before the band shows their readiness to abdicate from their Female vocal card if it serves its goal, and indulge in the Folky tinged (polyrhythmic hand claps et al) Jazz waltz “Waltz”.
In spite of, but also because of, the pointing in several directions and the hesitations in following a pattern, this album established McShee, Jansch, Renbourn, Thompson and Cox as the creators of a new style and an inexhaustible source of creative force and skilled playing that would serve the Folk scene, and its derivatives, for many years to come.
    Let No Man Steal Your Thyme 2:37 Bells -- 3:52 Hear My Call - 3:01 Pentangling - 7:02 Mirage - Jansch - 2:00 Way Behind the Sun - 3:01 Bruton Town - 5:05 Waltz - 4:54
