The Rolling Stones : Their Satanic Majesties Request 1H / 1G London Promotional Copy / Not For Sale 1967
This USA Promotional Copy from 1967 is in superb condition and the audio has very little background. The only intrusion is 5/6 staticy tick sounds on '2000 Light Years From Home' on S2 and aside from that the clarity, depth and power of the audio is very impressive. I'll be honest I don't think the depth and definition is as strong as the first / early UK versions but then that's not surprising is it. I guess people won't be bidding for that reason! The vinyl itself in in superb condition and based on its visual appearance it can only have been played a handful of times at most, if at all! According to Discogs it was pressed by H.V. Waddell in the US.
The lenticular cover is STUNNING! It has been made with very thick card so that has helped preserve its original quality. It has barely any wear, just a small corner crease top left and another on the corresponding side. The original red / white inner has also been produced with thicker paper and is in great condition also with just one side split.
NPS-2 // ZAL 8126-1H Bell Sound --- ZAL 8127-1G Bell Sounds
The audio S1 is Mint(-) (T3 & T5 Near Mint)
The audio S2 is Near Mint (T1 & T3 Mint- / T4 VG for 5/6 seconds)
The lenticular gatefold is Near Mint
The original red / white inner sleeve is Ex
The London labels are Mint
Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still hold a fine glossy sheen with no obvious marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a handful of small very faint hairlines and only a little mottling which is even fainter. There is no groove or surface wear and the blue London labels are pristine with no marking and no spindle wear.
Play grading
The intro on 'Sing This All Together' has no interference and the opening vocal section is just as strong and clear. The mid psych instrumental plays with superb clarity and the final vocal passage has no intrusion either. This is easily a Mint- start to the album.
The intro on 'Citadel' plays with real power and the first vocal is crystal clear. I don't think this pressing is so well defined as the first UK stereo press but it still plays damn well helped of course by the fact that it is a very clean vinyl. The brief pause is totally silent and it continues to play with genuine quality. There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and Mint- is again deserved.
'In Another Land' plays with stunning clarity from the intro onwards. A classic track from Wyman and it plays with near perfect audio. I heard just one very quiet tick in the first chorus but you could easily miss it. From then on the audio is faultless and Wyman's snore could hardly play any better! A bit mean perhaps but I'll say Near Mint
The intro on '2000 Man' plays with sublime clarity and Jagger's opening vocal is equally as good. The chorus section plays with the kind of depth you get with the UK pressings and the remainder has no intrusion. Mint-
The 'intro' on 'Sing This All Together (See What Happen)' has only one minor static and the first instrumental plays with tremendous quality, I only heard one light tick. From then on it plays with a clarity that can hardly be faulted. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but there is no denying the audio quality. The quieter mid section for example plays with incredible clarity and as it progresses there is still no background - no inner groove distortion either. The very quiet section just before the end vocal has not even a single dust tick and the vocal then plays with stunning clarity also as does the final brief instrumental. Total silence for a couple of seconds and then the industrial ending is flawless. I think this track also deserves a Near Mint grade.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'She's A Rainbow' has the spoken Barke intro and then the piano section is perfect. The opening vocal has no intrusion and the instrumental bridge then plays with superb clarity also. The piano / John Paul Jones strings section is quite possibly the best I have ever heard and the rest of this classic plays with stunning clarity and definition. It's such a clean, dynamic version and Mint- is definitely fair.
The intro on 'The Lantern' is faultless and of course the bell tolls only twice before the music comes in. The acoustic section has no background and I think I detected one tick at the beginning of the first vocal. Kind of on a beat so I'm not sure to be honest! It then plays so clearly with only a couple of minor statics - the clarity of sound is superb and there is no interference basically. The quieter sections plays with stunning clarity but overall I'll say Near Mint
'Gomper' impresses on so many levels also. The clarity and definition of the audio from the first note to the last is superb and again there is no interference. It's 'busy' during the instrumental but sonically it is as strong as ever. Mint-
The intro on '2000 Light Years From Home' begins perfectly but after about 20 seconds there are 5/6 staticy tick sounds, the first obvious intrusion on the album! As the music kicks in the audio is flawless and it continues in much the same way. The brief quiet section plays so well as does the concluding instrumental. This is Near Mint for the majority and VG for only a few seconds.
'On With The Show' ends the album with very strong audio. There are no tick, clicks, pops or static - perhaps a slight 'muddied' sound but it is the final track on the side. Let's say Near Mint
The Gatefold & Red / White Inner Sleeve
This lenticular cover is stunning and having looked high and low I cannot find any wear worthy of note. In saying that I have just seen a small crease in the top left corner which can also be seen on the back cover top right. It's very well hidden by the colouring. Aside from that the edges and wide spine are incredibly clean and a couple of corners only have the smallest of 'rubs'. The opening edge looks hardly touched and the front cover is stunning and the Promotional Copy sticker is still firmly attached as is the lenticular image. The back cover is just as impressive and the inside of the gatefold is immaculate. This is one of finest examples you will ever see!
The original inner is also made with thicker paper and it has no marking or creasing and only one smallish side split.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
