Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. PLEASE NOTE: I will NOT send any item, no matter what its value without a Royal Mail or courier tracking number. ALL my items must be signed and trackable to comply with Ebay delivery rules. Please do NOT ask me to make any exceptions to this rule as no country offers 100% reliable service without it.

Label Condition: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with a few spindle marks on side one, but only three or four on side two. These are only light and show little with normal viewing. The record itself in stunning condition, again owned by one owner from new who put his records to tape. It plays beautifully.

Brief Artist & Album Info: One of the lesser-mentioned ‘classics’ from this famous music year. Originally formed as a 1920s-style jazz revivalist band, but they soon found their nichè elsewhere. This debut album, dedicated to King Kong, from the kings of British satire of this time. A brilliant album and my personal favourite from them, and I never tire hearing it. It includes some wonderful songs, witty, catchy and, of course, a little eccentric, all are priceless gems – the Bonzos at their absolute best. Comedy is blended with zany Vaudeville jazz, pop and psychedelia. They became relatively popular in the late 1960’s and had regular television appearances on programs like ‘Do Not Adjust Your Set’. Slightly later, they had a hit single with ‘The Urban Spaceman’. The material was often revolutionary and a little risqué – all in typically ‘British’ style. Wacky, inventive and original, this is great entertainment. This copy on offer is an early mono on the blue Liberty label and in fantastic condition with sound to match and never easily found as such. One I enjoyed immensely, this includes the quite elusive book, also in fine condition and the rarer original fully laminated cover. A copy many collectors will cherish.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: arguably better. A single format laminated on the front and back. Printed and made in England by MacNeill Press. Includes the polylined 1967 date-coded inner sleeve and the large format book.

Cover & Lamination: Firstly, only a smaller percentage of covers were fully laminated, the single front laminated version is far more common. The laminate both sides retains excellent shine, freshness and clarity with minimal dulling and any lifting confined to the spine edges which is rarely avoided. However, this is relatively fine, especially on the front and having a mostly white backdrop, it shows far less than it would do on a darker sleeve. Unusually, this has very few creases with most very fine and faint near the edges or corners, the bottom left tip has a minor dink and that minimal blemish is the only one of any small note on the entire cover. This has survived all those years well and has been mostly cover protected by its owner, hence the white areas are still that, white, not toned or aged. To date, this is one of the finest Gorilla covers I have seen or had – the same goes for the record.

Top Edge: Thin, but still straight without any wear.

Bottom Edge: Almost the same again.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Impressively sharp with any thickening minuscule and light. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, still straight with any compression little and very light, the ends are pinched in manufacture. All text is unworn under the solidly intact and uncracked clear laminate.

Corners: Any tip rubbing very little and light, a very small dink to the bottom right corner on the back tip with very fine to excellent shape retained.

Cover Summary: A very fine and attractive example of this famous and rarer fully laminated 1960s cover. This should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(–): a Philips style polylined inner sleeve that has lightly aged. Mainly marked down for a corner crease and relatively mild paper discolouration. Both window circles crisp and very neat, the polylining still intact. All edges naturally intact. This is date-coded 107 (October 1967) with two British patent numbers (800513) / (973939).

The Book: NEAR EXCELLENT: with only gentle handling traces to the matt black front cover and small edge scuff on the back left edge near the bottom, being on a white area, it registers little. A very small surface chip on the front cover near the lower area right edge on the front and the odd small tone mark on the back. A 12-page black and white book, most pages seen in my pictures. Solidly intact with the two original staples that are untarnished, pulled or loosened. No hard creasing, no tears or writing, so the pages are all neat and aged little. So fully intact and still neat, not all copies included it, so hardly a common insert and seldom much better these days.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: and arguably better still for an album seldom seen in better conditions. A lovely visual copy that is very clean with impressive shine and solidly pressed. A very few light surface marks only with no penetrating stylus scratches, and it plays with brilliant sound. Visually a highly impressive mono record – most of these that surface are heavily played or even trashed especially in the single channel mode, this should please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This highly original album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. Few available copies, especially in mono, will outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp when played on standard stereo equipment. I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this brilliant record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.
