This is the Mount Everest of Rock & Roll. The towering mountaintop of modern American music.
For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or ► click here for the complete album listing)
Note: it remains unclear – as is the case with most of Dylan’s musical and business decisions – why he (or someone else at Columbia) decided to, at the very last moment, replace the faster, rowdier version of the “From the Buick Six” with the slower, more mellow version which is found on regular pressings of this album. What we do know for fact is that, at a time, Dylan was involved in a feud with Tom Wilson (who produced “Like a Rolling Stone” and received a very reluctant – minor – co-producer credit on the album’s cover) over Dylan’s musical direction and overall “feel” of his music. Dylan reportedly felt that Wilson was “electrifying” his music too much too fast and making it artificially more commercial. Needless to say, Wilson would soon – during the sessions for this album, as a matter of fact – get booted and lose his position as a Dylan’s in-house producer (hey, guys – don’t mess around with Bob D !!!) . Our assumption – which we are unable to substantiate – is that this, earlier, version of “From the Buick Six” was produced by Tom Wilson, and that Dylan didn’t like it, replacing it with a slower version produced by his next Columbia producer, Bob Johnston, who received a major credit as the album’s chief producer. Our personal feeling is that Tom Wilson was a sheer genius, that he did a phenomenal job on “Like a Rolling Stone” (I mean, for crying out loud, according to a recent poll, it is a #1 song of all time), and that Bob Dylan made a major mistake in having him sacked. But, hey – that’s only our opinion. Who knows what actually happened? From this perspective, 43 years later, probably not even Bob Dylan can remember why the song was replaced with another version. It remains a fact that, with or without Tom Wilson, Highway 61 Revisited remains one of two or three greatest Rock albums ever recorded.

· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) CAUTION! The vinyl is only VERY GOOD (-)- TO GOOD++, with multiple, numerous, small scuffs and scratches which are BOTH visible AND audible. The record plays with light and tolerable BUT AUDIBLE surface noise and occasional pops and clicks. The record plays without skipping throughout. This record WAS play-graded.
(b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(c) One of the labels has a small sticker with a name and/or address of the previous owner
(d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER
THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
- Cover has some visible ring wear; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 5.
- Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.
- The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover has a few wrinkles along the spine and the top seam
- Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam
- Cover has two corners slightly worn (nothing significant)
- Cover has some writing on its front side (name of the previous owner written in blue ballpoint pen, about ½ x 1/4 inches in size)
- Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease) in one of the corners. (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No split seams
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No stamps
- No peel-off marks
- No stains
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
