From Hays in a sedate college town in rural West Kansas came, The Bluethings who were
one of the best acts to come out of the Midwest in the '60s. They formed in 1964 as The Blue Boys cutting
three acetate 45s, before changing names in 1965. Starting out very much in the folk rock
and Merseybeat mould, they recorded two 45s for Ruff, which led to them mistakenly
being considered a Texas band. They then switched to RCA and their La Do Da Da was a
drivin' rework of an old Dale Hawkins rocker. The follow-up Doll House was quite a strong
folk-rock ballad later included on their first album. The late summer of 1966 marked an important
turning point in the band's career. Now influenced by the wave of psychedelia sweeping the world
and the enormously influential Revolver album by The Beatles, their live concerts at this time
were legendary and included a fair splattering of Beatles' songs.
The Orange Rooftop Of Your Mind single exemplified their new sound a
