ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO throughout - NEAR MINT!

TOP AUDIO - Virtually silent in the opening run ins, astounding sound! This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond . Strong, undistorted sound. Channels are clean and unstressed. The music jumps out, with unbelievable definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power. As with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. 

Heavy though their 1st album is, it is a complex and varied collection of music, and so hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Warning.' This copy has strong undistorted audio, with Super clear sound and absolutely minimal background static. There is certainly no  interference, and NO pops or clicks or Distortion. It really sounds amazing and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no sound blemishes. Some light occasional static only, and it is light and very occasional. Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, NO sticks or jumps what so ever. I loved every minute of this classic Sabbath masterpiece.

Even 'Sleeping Village ' sings out with silence in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten. The sound is on the whole near flawless, with no clicks or pops, no swishy noises, no interference. Amazing!

A great all round example of this classic vinyl.

THE RECORD - Visual Grading - Excellent

A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl has been little played. It does have some faint sleeve removal hairlines,  but the are light and have no effect on the sound. 

There are a few faint hairlines and handling marks only, this vinyl has been played very little, and carefully, and shows no groove wear or marks that can interfere with the audio at all. Unbelievable to think this vinyl is nearly 40 years old! Easily graded as EXCELLENT.

Black Sabbath is the 1st studio album of the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Released on 13 February 1970 in the United Kingdom, and later on 1 June 1970 in the United States, the album reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart and has been recognised as the pivotal album in the development of the heavy metal genre.

In August 1969 the band, who were then known as Earth, changed their name to Black Sabbath and recorded and distributed a demo version of their eponymous song. In December 1969 they recorded and released their debut single, "Evil Woman". In January 1970, the band recorded and mixed the remaining seven songs that would appear on their debut album.

Musically and lyrically the album was considered "dark" for the time. The first song on the album is based almost entirely on a tritone interval played at slow tempo on the electric guitar. The song's lyrics concern a "figure in black" which bass player Geezer Butler claims to have seen after waking up from a nightmare.

Lyrics of two other songs on the album were written with supernatural themes. "Behind the Wall of Sleep" makes reference to the H. P. Lovecraft short story Beyond the Wall of Sleep, while "The Wizard" was inspired by the character of Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. The latter includes harmonica performed by vocalist Ozzy Osbourne.

Both the songs "Warning" and "Evil Woman" are covers of blues songs. The first was written and performed by Aynsley Dunbar's Retaliation, and the second was written and performed by the band Crow.

Released on Friday the 13th February 1970 by Vertigo Records, Black Sabbath reached number eight on the UK Album Chart. Following its US release in June 1970 by Warner Bros. Records, the album reached number 23 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for over a year, selling a million copies. It is now considered one of the most influential albums of the 20th century.

THE COVER – EXCELLENT

Comes with the original RARE UN LAMINATED Cover. A nice example, the cover does show some light handling wear only. NO spine creasing, there is some light corner wear, but absolutely no tears or serious defects. There is no feathering to the openings, which is unusual, just some very light finger marks on the inside. 

THE LABELS - NEAR MINT

Famous VERTIGO labels are in SUPERB Condition, no marks or writing, no discernible  spindle wear.  Great all round examples, with a couple of the lightest spindle traces only!  

THE INNER

Original Poly lined Vertigo Swirl  inner sleeve in VERY GOOD PLUS condition.  Lightly creased and scuffed, there are no tears to the die cut centres, and one slight seem split on one side. The sleeve is yellowed as these nearly always are, but is a nice fully intact example complete with its original poly liner.  There is a slight trace of tape removal as clearly seen in the image, but all round this is a complete respectable original Vertigo Inner Sleeve!

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Top quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
