Description

The Big Boys were a band  who are credited with helping introduce the style of hard core punk that became popular in the 1980s. The band started in Austin, Texas. and  the band members were Randy Turner, better known as 'Biscuit' on vocals, Tim Kerr played the guitar and Chris Gates played bass. Over the years the group played with four different drummers :  Steve Collier, Greg Murray, Fred Shultz and Rey Washem. The hardcore punk style, arose spontaneously in various cities but in Austin it was represented by  Big Boys and The Dicks. The bands often played with each other, and Big Boys and The Dicks released a split single and an LP, Live At Raul's, together. Big Boys shows were legendary, frequently involving food fights, 'Biscuit' in a tutu or dress, and invitations to the audience to come up and sing along, which often occurred. At the end of early shows the band was famous for yelling, "OK y'all, go start your own band". The Big Boys are credited as well with the introduction of funk rhythms to hardcore, creating funkcore, an innovation influential on later bands. They were also involved in the skatepunk scene, featured in Thrasher skateboarding magazine and videos, and had their own BIG BOYS skateboard.

I had a shop in Austin during this time called Shoppe Blitz where I sold vintage clothes and buttons and some of Austin's  local fan-zines. I saw the BIG BOYS at Raul's and Club Foot many times.  I knew Biscuit well as we had been Goodwill and Sally pickers from the early 1970's.  He gave me this album when it came out. I had bought one that I often played in the shop and I kept this one in the plastic.I guess I have played this one maybe 2 times.

I am not a record collector or dealer  but I think  the condition of the record, the inserts, the sleeve, and the album cover is near mint. The original plastic sleeve/cover shows wear and the cover shows some yellowing around the edges.  There  is a picture of the small amount of discoloration under the B in BIG on the cover.
