Two of the albums have a little chip at the outer edge which will not affect its playing. Another one, Amapola, has part of the grooves missing, it is approximately 1" long and 1/2" wide, so the first part of the record is unplayable, however, the rest is fine.
All of the albums are 10 inch, 78 RPM. Please note that each record should be cleaned thoroughly prior to playing to remove any dust & debris, to get the best possible audio. Some of the albums show some surface only scuffs (scuffs are not scratches and cannot be felt with fingers). I have checked and I have not seen any that actually has any scratches. Some of the sleeves do show some surface wear, as they have been in storage for decades. These are all made in USA.
The phonographic album is not in good shape, but it still holding together, I am sure that it was beautiful once but apparently it was handled without the proper care and it has taken a toll. Please look at pictures for more details.
This phonograph album is from the private collection of clarinetist Ralph V. La Polla (please read below for more information on the history and general information on my listings).
This is a great collection of vintage music to have and to have friends over to remember the good old times and get on their feet to dance again.
HISTORY AND ADDITIONAL GENERAL INFORMATION ON MY LISTINGS:
I have been very fortunate to come across a very extensive collection of vintage record albums (LP's) and music sheet arrangements belonging to a very talented and virtuoso clarinet player, Ralph V. La Polla, who started his musical career at the very early age of 6 being taught by his father, Louis La Polla, a great woodwind musician himself.
Ralph joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was recruited to play with the U.S. Navy Band with bandleader Artie Shaw and played throughout the Pacific Theater of War. He then continued with the U.S. Navy Band conducted by Sam Donohue until the end of the war.
He has played with many of the top big bands of all times, such as Artie Shaw, Bennie Goodman, Les Brown, Jerry Gray, Sam Donahue, Tex Beneke, Ray Anthony, Nelson Riddle, "Doc" Severinsen, Miguelito Valdez, Mitchell Ayres, Claude Thornhill, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and the Newport Rhode Island Symphony Orchestra.
While playing with Les Brown Band of Renown, he was the featured solo clarinetist in most of the songs and recordings. They traveled all over the world for many years with the famed "Bob Hope Christmas Show" entertaining the servicemen abroad. He has backed up such stars as Frank Sinatra, Ann-Margret, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peggy Lee, Johnny Mathis, Raquel Welch, Connie Stevens, Paul Anka, Bill Cosby, Glenn Campbell, Steve Lawrence and Edye Gormet, Carol Lawrence, Dick Haymes, Barbara Eden, Frankie Lane, Elaine Dunn, Barbara McNair, among others.
In the 1980's, he started his very own 17 piece Swinging Years Band Orchestra recreating authentic sounds of the 30's and 40's big band era (tour-de-force).
Most of the albums in this collection appear to be in good condition with no visible scratches, many of them look like they haven't even been played, others do show some surface only scuffs (scuffs are not scratches and cannot be felt with fingers). A few do have some scratches. Some of the sleeves and jackets do show some surface wear, as they have been in storage for decades. More specific information on the condition of each individual album will be set forth as each of them is listed. Some of the albums have Ralph La Polla's name written on them, and some hand-written notations as well. Some of the records have no recording date in either the album or the jacket itself, but most of them appear to be from the 40's and 50's. I have not listened to any of the albums as I do not own a turntable and rather sell them just as I have obtained them.
I'm not an expert nor do I pretend to be one, most of my knowledge on the items I am selling may be limited and much of it has been acquired through searches. I take a lot of pride in describing my items and add many pictures of the item(s) to my listings so you can judge for yourself. Please note that I only visually inspect the albums and my grading is what I can see and not necessarily what will be heard. I do my very best to be thorough when examining each piece, but I am human and can make mistakes such as missing certain imperfections. Please note that most of these items are vintage, and as such, they will generally show some signs of aging and wear, sometime even tears, so please asks questions before bidding and/or buying this item.
