BEGGAR'S OPERA - ACT ONE

VERTIGO  6360 018

1st PRESS Large swirl!!

UK 1970

Machined matrices: 1Y//1  2Y//1

Earliest mother stampers as well.

The absolute rarity of this album is not to be underestimated. It hardly ever surfaces nowadays. This is an absolutely gorgeous slab of early quality Vertigo vinyl which is in excellent condition!! Quality replay with hardly any background noise. Hauntingly beautiful songcraft!!!  I have twenty five years experience in grading. It doesn't get much better than this!!

***VERY FIRST ISSUE OF THIS SET OF SUPERB TRACKS***

A CLASSIC JAZZ PROGRESSIVE LP

Beggars Opera were a progressive rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in Glasgow in 1969 by guitarist Ricky Gardiner. The line-up consisted of Ricky Gardiner (guitar/vocals) (born Richard Gardner, in 1948, Edinburgh, Lothian, Scotland), Alan Park (keyboards) (born 10 May 1951, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland), Martin Griffiths (vocals), Marshall Erskine (bass/flute) and Raymond Wilson (drums).

In 1970, after signing to Vertigo Records, the band recorded their first album Act One, and a single "Sarabande", which charted record in several European countries. The following year, for their second album, Waters of Change, the band were joined by Gordon Sellar (bass) (born 13 June 1947, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland). The single "Time Machine" from that album was successful in Germany, where the band toured extensively.

This record rarely surfaces especially in the condition that this one is, being one of the rarest progressive albums of it’s era.

!!!!A VERY HARD FIND!!! Most have been bought up by collectors!! This is hardly offered these days!!

In all my years this is only the second time I have come across this PROGMONSTER. Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl . Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

Vinyl:  EX.  A sensational find!!! Only a couple of very wispy hairlines not having any impact on the sublime audio!! Light paper retraction traces under a strong light not visible in normal daylight. This is a truly minor classic from the golden era of prog. It doesn't get much better than this!!!  Of course NO jumps/clicks/skips etc. NO marks , etc.

 Gatefold Sleeve: EX.

The sleeve was printed in Germany and somehow was married up with the UK vinyl which sometimes happened like also e.g. Black sabbath' Paranoid which I own with a laminated Vertigo sleeve printed in Germany. It has some price stickers to the front which could be removed if so wanted as the sleeve is glossy. Hardly any edge wear. No creases. This album has been very carefully looked after.  All edges are straight. The spine is 100% legible. The inside gatefold is NM. there is NO writing, NO tears, NO splits, NO damage!!! This sleeve is lovely!!!!

***This is a unique investment opportunity!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible!!! This is  a great and seriously collectable super album!!  You will buy into a piece of  prog core history.***

Labels: NM!!! Great!! No writing, NO staining!!

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.

Important : International postage will be registered and insured if over GBP 41.00.  Please wait for my invoice before paying. Postage will be according to Royal Mail rates. Postage is NOT a money spinning exercise for me.

Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly!  PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST,  if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one!  I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem!  This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees  and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem.  Thanks again!!
